BENNIT APPOINTED MEMBER OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

EWA would like to congratulate EWA Life Member, Diane Bennit, for her recent appointment as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia on the Queen’s Honours List. Diane is a true stalwart of the sport with her achievements as a rider and positions held as a sport administrator, coach and commentator too many to list. We thank Diane for her tireless contribution to the WA equestrian community and congratulate her on receiving this prestigious commendation. MORE

JUNIOR MENTORING PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP

Junior athletes (U/21 as at 31 December 2018) are invited to apply for the 2019 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program. The Scholarship will provide encouragement and funding for 14 months to help five young athletes achieve at the highest level of their sport. Applications close Monday 9 July. MORE

This forum/course is for people interested in becoming an EA Official and current EA Officials needing to attend a Refresher Course for reaccreditation. Judges, riders and coaches are also welcome to attend to observe. The day will consist of presentations by EA National Medication Control Officer Dr Cate Plummer, FEI Steward General Chris Wallis and EA Officials Pathway Manager Di Saunders.

All Dressage riders, officials and enthusiasts are invited to join a discussion and Q&A with Special Guest FEI 5* Judge Maria Schwennesen on the Friday evening. Come along for a cosy discussion, wine and cheese!

Maria is an FEI 5* Judge from Queensland, Judge Educator and Mentor, FEI Young Horse Judge and EA Young Horse Educator and Examiner. She is Chair of the Equestrian Australia Dressage Judges Committee and was awarded 2017 EA Official of the Year. In 2018 Maria officiated at PSI Dressage and Jumping with the Stars where our West Australian Young Horses enjoyed success. Maria regularly judges at the most prestigious CDI’s and is a member of the Ground Jury for the 2018 FEI European Championships for Young Riders & Juniors in Fontainebleau, France.

GRASSROOTS DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dressage WA is proud to announce the 2018 Grass Roots Dressage Championships to be held on 24 November at the State Equestrian Centre!

This is a closed restricted competition offering EA tests from Prep to Elementary. To be eligible to compete, riders must hold a current 2018 EWA Participant (Junior/Senior) or Adult Rider membership. Pony, participant and adult rider classes offered. PE tests upon request. To be eligible, horses/ponies must NOT hold a current EWA Dressage competition license.

Young horse classes: There are limited places in the 4, 5, 6 & 7 young horse ages classes. Horses of all types have placed in these classes, so if you have a 4-7-year-old horse, now's the time to shine over straightforward courses specifically designed for young horses.

Height class competitors: There may be a spot here or there in Sunday's 1.20 and 1.30m and Saturday’s 80cm, 90cm and 1.05m Rehearsal Rounds (which can be entered even if you aren't jumping in the young horse or Sunday classes). SPECTATORS WELCOME! This is a great show to watch even if you're not participating, especially Sunday afternoon's winner-take-all PATERSONS SECURITIES MINI PRIX and the ultimate finale, THE FINAL FOUR. Guest interstate and international rider Colleen Brook will be riding the winners of the four age classes. She's enormously experienced and an entertaining, informative presenter and is joined by our WA judges Darren Taylor and Roger Kammann. Refreshments available and great trade stands. VALE SHELLEY BENTHIEN

The Western Australian Show Horse community was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Shelley Benthien. Shelley was loved by all. She always gave her time to help and encourage the younger riders and she was a great supporter of our sport of Show Horse. On June 7th the Show Horse Community came together to pay their respects and farewell a wonderful lady. Our sincere condolences to Greg, Shannara, Sue and family at this sad time. Shelley will be sorely missed by us all.

EWA Show Horse is excited to present the 2018 Show Horse Seminar & Riders Forum. If you are interested in learning more about the sport and what a judge looks for in a successful Show Horse/Hunter, then this is the seminar for you! The Seminar will feature guest speaker Terry Van Heythuysen (VIC) who has been involved with showing horses for many years and has numerous state and national title wins to his credit.

The EWA Show Horse Committee will also be conducting their annual Forum following the Seminar. Riders, judges and event organisers encouraged to attend to discuss the sport.
