After months of hard work and preparation, our local office teams have managed to organise and deliver the exams under strict health and safety measures, with great teamwork, positivity and determination we have overcome all the obstacles. At the end, having a very successful result. It has been a difficult year and now it is time to take a well-deserved break and to recharge. Stay healthy, happy and enjoy your holidays. Happy Summer, everyone! Anglia NetherlandsMessage by Arnold Augustijn, Director English Education Group: Listening to homework has become one of the highlights of my professional life as a teacher of English. The enthusiasm of the students recording interviews, short presentations or small group discussions is captivating. More than 200 international 12 to 17 year olds have now taken part in a project which involved 10 minutes of active English per day, resulting in 6,000 recordings at 3 levels: A1, A2 and B1. Enough to make our international team of markers smile most of their days. But how to reciprocate the students’ enthusiasm? What is a good way to give feedback? We are looking for ideas and we are inviting colleagues to meet us on our new platform to discuss options, on Tuesday 29 June at 5 pm CET or Thursday 1 July at 8 am, you can register by sending an e-mail to board@anglianetwork.eu. Successful Anglia exams: June session in The Netherlands Despite Covid limitations and tropical temperatures in The Netherlands, students in over 100 schools joined our Anglia Examinations & Speaking Tests yesterday. Results will be announced on the 3rd of August. We would like to thank all the Anglia Coordinators and teachers for their efforts and hard work. PIE for.. Experienced teachers will be explaining how to learn English in a computer supported way. It will be the first time ever that we will work with this newly built analytics system. Within 40 seconds this system will make a 3-page report, stipulating your level and giving details to help you understand how to get better. In 1 week, you will write 3 compositions, so you can see your progress. In addition to this artificial marking, participants in our Summer Programme will improve their speaking skills. Recording reading out loud on our platform has proven to be very helpful, in the last 10-weeks hundreds of students have experienced this. The recorded presentation of topics will be analyzed, to show how you can structure your preparation. Speaking is more than making sounds. Join international students from 11 countries for small group discussions in our Breakout Rooms. You will be guided by trained moderators. We are ready to help you. Looking forward to talking to you. EFKF: Free Pen-Pal Event With Friends4Kids students from across the globe will get connected. Under guidance of EFKF they will write each other 4 letters. End of the academic year Spanish people are looking forward to their holidays now. Students and teachers have been working really hard since September 2020, which means it is now time for them to take a rest. Summer holidays are round the corner, and people can already feel it. All exam centres registering candidates in June have done an extraordinary job – congratulations to all of you and thanks for trusting Anglia Examinations one more year. Exam Sessions As is the case every June, we had the biggest Exam Session as most students in Spain take an International Exam before they finish their academic year. Meet our Local Agents We would like to share some words from one of our Local Agents in Spain. Let us introduce you to Peter Vooght, Local Agent for the region of Aragón. "My name is Peter Vooght, the local agent for Aragón, Spain. I have been teaching English now for over 15 years to people of all levels, ages and backgrounds; working with those seeking to improve their general English or gain specific qualifications as well as in different fields of business including banking, marketing and trade and not only European, but global conferences, where precision in translation, editing and proof-reading were vital. I heard about Anglia while working with another contact and once having seen not only what Anglia could offer students, but also the format and content, I was delighted to be able to join the Anglia team. Through word of mouth, Anglia exams are taking off in Aragón with students and our new Anglia Exam Centres enjoying the variety of advantages offered and consequently, success. Despite 2020 being a complicated year for everyone, we have moved on from our initially planned quarterly exam sessions to holding exam sessions on a monthly basis. This increase in demand is due to the friendly format and practical skills tested in each of the levels on offer as well as the other advantages Anglia exams offer. I thoroughly expect, with ever increasing word of mouth, that Anglia Exams will continue to grow in the province and throughout Spain. " New Exam Centres Language schools are looking for new alternatives for this coming September. This is why we have lately been contacted by several institutions so we can tell them what Anglia Examinations offer. As a result, four more institutions have become Anglia Official Exam Centres this month: Notting Hill School of English from La Coruña, Academia Pallares, from Vigo, Pontevedra, Active Institute, from León and Asociación Recreativa e Cultural Os Tilos, from La Coruña. Welcome to the Anglia Family. Chris Kunz in action! Chis Kunz, our President for The Ibero-American Network, delivered a CPD Session on ‘English as a Lingua Franca’ for teachers at UK-based Chichester College, House of Anglia Examinations. Thank you Ian Tebb, Head of International, for the invite and support. Webinars for Anglia Members On Saturday 12th June, Alice Osman, Chief Examiner and Academic Director at Anglia Examinations UK, delivered one more session to help teachers prepare students for Anglia exams. As the previous month the session had focused on the higher levels, this month she helped all attendees concentrate on the mid levels: Anglia Elementary (A2), Anglia Pre-Intermediate (A2+) and Anglia Intermediate (B1). The feedback from the teachers was very positive as they felt we are helping them to get full success. They really appreciated all the information shared. Thank you, Alice, once again, for your continuous support for Anglia Members. The next and last webinar in the series will be on 3rd July, when Alice will be focusing on the lower levels. We are really looking forward to it. Invigilator Training Session Once more, an Invigilator Training Session was carried out this past month. Teachers from new exam centres mainly attended and it was really useful for them as they could clear doubts and ask administration-related questions about Anglia exam session taking place at their schools. Thank you all for being there. Administrative information From 23rd to 30th June, we received exam entry forms for our forthcoming July exam session. We look forward to seeing you all again next month. This time, we bring you Clementina, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. They do say it best. If you’d like to read all our stories of success and testimonials, please visit https://www.angliaexams.com/recognition?id=461 Special Testimonial A very dear Anglia member is retiring this year, and she has sent us these beautiful words to share with you all: I came across Anglia and the Ibero-American Network at a stand during an ABS International Congress in Buenos Aires in 2012. In those days, I was interested in a study trip to the UK and what they had to offer seemed really appealing. I soon arranged an appointment with Chris Kunz and was introduced to the exam system. I became an Anglia member in March 2012. Since that year and until 2019 all our students sat the exams, from First Step to Proficiency. There is a sense of achievement implied in the fact that we were able to provide our students not only with the knowledge of the language, but also with certificates that are a useful tool for their lives. In July 2013 I was able to go to Chichester with two of my students. We loved every minute of that trip. The College, the course, the host families, the city, the environment … Moni and Chris. Everything was awesome. We are forever going to cherish the memories we made there. My retiring time has come. Moving on to different plans while we still have energy. I will always have Anglia and the amazing people I met among my fondest memories. I will always cherish what I learned with and from them. And when I see my former students thriving in life, I will feel the inner satisfaction of having provided them with the best option available in regards of English assessment. Thank you all very much. Adriana Ovejero - Escobar, Buenos Aires, Argentina Anglia Projects Throughout June, we launched the Third Anglia Challenge! This time for Anglia teachers only. The lucky winner will receive a full scholarship to sit a C.I.T.E. Exam of their choice in December 2021. Good luck, everyone! Words from our Local Agents Mirta Sarchione, Local Agent in several areas of Argentina I’ve been an Anglia Examinations Local Agent since 2005. At that time, I started spreading the Anglia word in Pergamino, Buenos Aires Province, the city where I live, and in many other nearby cities. Little by little the work increased steadily, and now the result is that I am not only a Local Agent in many cities in Buenos Aires Province (Pergamino, Rojas, Salto, Arrecifes, Junín, Capitán Sarmiento, Conesa, Guerrico, Los Toldos, Colón, General Villegas, Olavarría, Roberts, Acevedo, Mar del Plata, Chivilcoy), but also in Santa Teresa, Wheelwright, Sargento Cabral, General Gelly, Venado Tuerto and Juncal in the Province of Santa Fe; Villa de Merlo, Tilisarao, Concarán in the Province of San Luis; and Río Cuarto in the Province of Córdoba. It’s really a great pleasure to represent Anglia and I’m more than happy to do this work, which turns out to be very comforting thanks to entire the Anglia Team. I truly appreciate the confidence Anglia Representatives in Argentina showed in me. It's really a very enjoyable experience in my life. Anglia PeruThis past month, we’ve had many students from Canonesas de la Cruz School in Ica sit their very first online Anglia Exams. They have very much enjoyed the experience and are already looking forward to finding out how they did. We loved that they tried a new way of assessment this year! Primary and secondary students from Claretiano School in Huancayo are currently doing their placement tests, in order to check their level of English, and prepare to sit their Anglia exams in the coming months. After meeting with authorities to discuss everything we offer, Guadalupe Rodriguez has had two meetings with translation students from LITS - Eurotrad, in Lima, where they received information about our Certificate and Diploma in Applied Translation specifically – they have a clear aim in mind, ie that of sitting these exams in the near future. Teachers from Peru have also enjoyed a Professional Development session offered by Chris Kunz and an Anglia Presentation delivered by Guadalupe Rodriguez, and organised by our Local Agents English Connections. Full house for both sessions! Anglia MexicoBooks Services, our Local Agents in Mexico, have held a few meetings with a very important University in an as yet unchartered (by Anglia!) part of Mexico; and we are very close to welcoming them to the Anglia family. Great job! News from AsiaAnglia IndonesiaCompleting the 1st Batch, Activating English Learning Program 2021 in Indonesia We invite more schools to join the 2nd Batch in September 2021. It’s been 10 weeks since the eleven schools experienced the new way of learning English through Anglia Online Platform in Indonesia. Some valuable feedback from students was they enjoyed learning using the platform and meeting international friends! In addition to this, students found it interesting yet challenging to record their own voice while reading, and presenting in the platform. They got the chance to evaluate and submitted it confidently. Engaging moment in the last webinar with Prof. Arnold and international guests, aimed at students to activate their English skills. What a complete and practical 10-weeks of webinar sessions! However, that is not the end! Some students will also experience Anglia online exams in the following month. Hope we can hear more excitement and positive expression like this one from our students in Indonesia "I have never learned so much in such a short time, just 10 minutes per day, it is amazing!" Let’s speed up and build more remarkable learning experiences with Anglia Indonesia! |
