Message for our National Director - Steve Bailey

I am a terrible written communicator and I am always that guy who is holding up the inside newsletter. As I was sitting pondering what to write I look above my desk and see so many photos, calendars and other stuff with the CS logo on it, I started to think of its history and what it has represented over the years. The way it has been part of the landscape in the surfing community in Australia in different forms, from groms, to old guys, competitors through board-riders to pros. Back in the 90’s the surfing community was very different, fluro, fluro, I know you miss it Al.  Line-ups were much younger mostly short boards, male dominated and in some places very competitive and aggressive. Today our line-ups are so diverse, boards of all shapes and sizes, age range’s from micros to old guys like me. Male and female share the line-up without bias, it comes down to how you surf.
One thing that hasn’t changed is what is behind the CSA logo, following Jesus.
We follow a God that is unchanging yet is meeting people, changing lives changing families, changing communities. His mission since man walked away from him is to reconcile people back to him.
John 3:16-17  are famous verses and so they should be, those 2 verses sum up Jesus mission on earth. V17 God did not send his son into this world condemn the people. He sent him to save them.
God’s heart for people has not changed, nor has our mission to proclaim it. I hope through our fast paced changing culture that this never changes for CSA. In everything we do may the light of Christ  shine, may we point people to Jesus the saviour of the world.
God Bless
Steve Bailey

QLD - Learn to Surf Day

Sharing the ‘stoke’ of surfing with another person is one the best experiences you can have as a surfer. Watching on as fear and uncertainty of the waves turns into pure excitement and adrenalin as they feel the power of the wave hurl them towards the beach stumbling to their feet for the first time is so much fun. It helps you rediscover the fact that surfing is all about fun.

So on a chilly (vic surfers chuckling) morning on the 7th June at Maroochydore , Sunshine Coast, the Christian Surfers Queensland crew ran a learn to surf morning in conjunction with the Annual Network Communications Gathering . Network communications is the largest regional Optus dealer in Australia with over 50 stores, most of which are locally owned and run by Christians.

5% of all phone bills from Network is donated to selected charities, one of which is Christian Surfers Australia, so these crew are straight up legends.

The conditions were perfect for learning and so we got straight into it. Matt Green gave an impressive demonstration on the sand followed by a quick prayer thanking the Lord for the waves and that no one would get crunched (standard CS pre-surf prayer). After an hour and a half the crew were spent and all of them got to their feet at least once. Yew!

Southern NSW - Winter Competition

Successful Winter Comp

CS  Ulladulla  again hosted their annual Winter .Comp on Sat 13th June at Mollymook Reef.

God was so kind to us as we experienced perfect clean offshore conditions. The contest was conducted on a beach break and it was challenging even for the best surfers with an increasing swell of 3 to 4 ft waves There were 49 competitors in 6 divisions.

The competitors were locals of all ages as well as ladies and girls from Cronulla and Stanwell Park.  The spectators were treated to a day of impressive surfing. Guest speaker was Rachel McKendrick  (nee Campbell) who shared aspects of her testimony and boldly shared the gospel to an attentive crowd.

A strong womens division included girls from Cronulla and Stanwell Park. Paris Whittaker (middle of top row) just edged out local surfer Rubie Reents for 1st place.

The Open Division winner in action Zane Steadman

A mini groms event was included on the day

Blast from the Past ...

INSIDE - CSA National Newsletter have been around for a while now. Over the years the format of Inside has changed a little, but the content is the same: celabrating what God is doing through a bunch of surfers. It also reminds us of who & what has been done before us and as the world is constently changing, this is something we cant forget.

Here is the National Diretors blurb for Inside, 2008. His words are still true today: "One thing has remained constant and true, and that is who we are and what we are about"

I would encourage you every now & then, to jump on & check out an old Inside (We have from 2008 onilne), and we would love to hear your thoughts, memories and if God is speaking to you about the future of CSA.
