Open days to discuss shortlisted options

Thank you for the extensive feedback you have given us on the long list of options. Your comments provide valuable input as we take a closer look at each one.  A workshop with key stakeholders from local councils, iwi, industry and other interest groups has provided important insights as we narrow down the options.

Further work now shows that some of the long list options are not feasible for a variety of reasons. We’ll explain these reasons further when we share the shortlist with you next week.

Pahiatua Track

Maintenance work on the Pahiatua Track continues, as well as frequent inspections to determine when and if more extensive maintenance may be required to ensure we meet the required levels of service.  Planned renewals work, including resurfacing, will take place over the coming summer months. Over the next few weeks we will provide more information about the type of work and how it may impact your travel across the Pahiatua Track.

Work in Ashhurst

The community has welcomed the reduction in noise along Salisbury Street.  Next week we will be undertaking minor surface levelling on Mulgrave Street in preparation for an asphalt surface to be laid. We are also discussing any maintenance work along Wynyard Street that may be required with Palmerston North City Council, to accommodate the increase in heavy vehicles using this route.

Next week we will trial a different type of speed cushion on Worcester Street. If these speed cushions are successful in reducing vehicle speed and vibrations they will be installed on other impacted side streets.

Saddle Road

We are planning for lane closures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week to complete borehole testing at the over slip on Saddle Road. Repair work will also be carried out on the Woodville side of Saddle Road to address issues in the downhill lane. This work is weather dependent so closure days may change - we will provide daily information on the electronic message boards.

Further upgrades to Saddle Road will continue from the 15th of October. Initially, works will take place at night with lane closures between 6pm and 6am. The work sites will be under stop/go traffic management and we will provide daily information on the electronic message boards.

We continue to monitor the Saddle Road and make repairs as required to ensure it remains fit for purpose. We are also undertaking frequent inspections to determine if and when more extensive maintenance will be required.  We are actively working to minimise any delays for the travelling public.

Please check out our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nztacni/ for the latest news and updates on the works.
