Four quick things:

What a great cruise out we had to Angel Island last Thanksgiving weekend!  Thank you to Shannon Amerman and Tod Klingler for being in the vanguard and reserving Ayala Cove for us.  Thank you also to Tom Keegan for your hard work in organizing the event and frying the turkey.  And thanks to all the pot-luckers who brought generous amounts of the most amazing side dishes, salads and desserts.  All were delicious.

Hey Sequoia, your generosity has led to the purchase of 30 (yup, 30!) bikes for the Redwood City Fire Department’s toy drive.  Thank you so much!  Now come join us for some pizza and drinks after the race on 12/13 to assemble them!  That should be around 3:30 PM.

Have you seen the galley lately?  The appliances have been out of the room for a bit to allow installation of the new floor and the place has been scrubbed and painted!  Thank you to Fabian Pease, Tim Petersen, Ted Eberle and the Gilmore’s for their work!  Steve Higgs is also on the lookout for a gently used commercial stove and refrigerator and we hope to have some leads on those soon.  Thank you Steve.

Lastly, please check our all your club has to offer this Holiday Season.  We have an informal decoration gathering, a Children’s party (fun for adults too), a Drop In Dinner next week and an adult Holiday Party on 12/19.  So find an event or two and come on down!

Sea Scout Christmas Trees!

Help support the  Sea Scouts and our Mariners. It is such a great program and they provide such great support for our club, like setup, serving and cleanup for the recent installation dinner.  They are terrific kids and they work hard.

Our Mariners' ship Tradewind is joining up with the Sea Scouts of Palo Alto (Intrepid) again this year for a fund raising tree lot.

It is located at the Little League Clubhouse:

3672 Middlefield Rd
Palo Alto, CA 94306.

Beautiful trees will be on sale every day 10:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. until Sunday, December 22 (or sold out).

We would like to extend an invitation and a $5.00 discount coupon to Sequoia Yacht Club members.  Click here to view/print your discount coupon!

Happy Holidays SYC!

Pied Piper at Panama Canal

(ed note: Kudos to Shannon Amerman for tracking Pied Piper down!)

Pied Piper moored in Panama Monday morning at 4 a.m. EST. That is 3,000nm from San Francisco - crew is doing well and is pleased to get this milestone of the journey completed. Next stop the Canal and then BVI.

Skipper and Past Commodore Peter Blackmore, along with First Mate Debra and two other crew members report the trip has gone exceedingly well and they hope to transverse the canal sometime this week. Once through the Canal, Blackmore reports they will visit the San Blas Islands before heading off on the long dash to Tortola, BVI.

We look forward to more details of their trip once they arrive in Tortola.

Light Up Your Dock!

Celebrate the season by decorating your boat in the Redwood City Municipal and Redwood Landing marinas this December.

Decorate your boat to be the envy of your neighbors!

  • The winner receives 1 month free berthing (Municipal Harbor) or $100 gift certificate from West Marine (Redwood Landing)
  • Second place receives a $50 gift certificate from West Marine
  • Third place receives two drop-in dinners at Sequoia Yacht Club

Thank you to the Port of Redwood City for donating free berthing!

Boats will be judged on the night of December 18th and the prizes will be awarded at the Sequoia Yacht Club on the night of Friday December 19.

Winners not in attendance will be notified.

This is the time to pull out all the stops and show us your ability to make your boat shine for the holidays.

No display is too large or too small. Whether it is a few lights to brighten a dark winter night, or a full-on display to rival Clark Griswold’s most garish installations, we want to see your boat lighting up the marina.

Due to dredging operations and construction in and around the port the Lighted Boat Parade will not be held this year. Look for the parade to return in 2015.

Turkey Day At Ayala Cove

By all accounts, if you didn't join the fun on the Thanksgiving cruise-out to Ayala Cove you missed a great holiday celebration.

Tom Keegan, exalted cruise captain and turkey cook extroadinaire, led a floatilla of 9 boats and 28 intrepid cruisers on a fun-filled adventure to Angel Island. "Spanish Style" was the theme of the turkey feast.

The following photos were all provided by Peter Weigt. To see more photos, check out the Sequoia Yacht Club Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/sequoiayc

Another beautifully fried bird - the Turkey looks good too!

Giving thanks for good friends

You gotta get those selfies!

The end of a filling day on a beautiful island in the prettiest bay anywhere.
