What to expect during February
During February the focus will continue around the Maunganui-Girven intersection and State Highway 29A, with earthworks kicking-off at the southern end of the project.
You can expect:
-
Installation of a new stormwater drain under SH2 to be completed between Matapihi Road and Bayfair Shopping Centre verge, with work continuing in the verge.
-
Construction of a trial embankment in the empty sections along SH2 Maunganui Road, to replicate what the permanent embankment will do to the existing ground. This is so the construction team can see how the soil below behaves below the surface and how long it will need to settle.
-
Removal of the remaining concrete median barriers along SH29A so the earthworks and ground improvements of the new roundabout can get underway.
-
Earthworks to begin in the northbound verge between Titoki Place and the Maunganui-Girven intersection, while progress will continue on the new northbound on and off ramps in preparation for pavement works.
-
Service relocation works will continue with power moving from SH29A to SH2 (near Exeter Street), testing of the new gas line to take place before installation begins, and the new sewer line connections nearing completion along SH2.
-
Relocation of fibre optic cables and street lights will begin along SH2, north of the Maunganui-Girven intersection.
-
The remaining vegetation across site will be removed.
