Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccines: Australian Government Department of Health Disability Provider Alert (23 April 2021)

The Australian Government Department of Health (Department of Health) has today issued a Disability Provider Alert with updated information for disability providers.

Key points

  • The Department of Health has issued a new Disability Provider Alert, which contains important information about the continued rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine for people with disability living in residential accommodation eligible under phase 1a.
  • The alert also contains an update on how disability workers can access the vaccine.
  • Australian Government agencies have also developed useful information for employers about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Department of Health provider alert (23 April)

The Department of Health has issued a COVID-19 vaccination – Disability Provider Alert 23 April 2021.

The alert contains important information about the continued rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine for people with disability living in residential accommodation eligible under phase 1a. It also contains an update on how disability workers can access the vaccine.

Australian Government resources for employers about COVID-19 vaccinations

The following Australian Government agencies have developed useful information for employers about the COVID-19 vaccine:

  • Fair Work Ombudsman: information about COVID-19 vaccinations and the workplace. It includes guidance on workplace rights and obligations, and resolving workplace issues.
  • Safe Work Australia: information for employers in the NDIS on the vaccination and your WHS duties.
  • Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): guidance on understanding your privacy obligations to your staff in relation to the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The Australian Human Rights Commission addresses questions about COVID-19 vaccinations and federal discrimination law.

This information is intended as guidance on your obligations as an employer. For registered NDIS providers, it is a condition of registration that you comply with all relevant Commonwealth and state and territory legislation, including industrial relations, Work, Health and Safety (WHS) and privacy legislation.
