Niagara Region receives highest award in governmental budgeting for the 13th consecutive year

June 13, 2025

For the 13th consecutive year, Niagara Region has been recognized for meeting the highest principles of government budgeting by receiving the 2025 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government of Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

The award represents a significant achievement by Niagara Region. A panel of independent reviewers examined the Region’s annual budget document for 2025 and have determined that Niagara Region’s Financial Management and Planning Division met the high standards set for this award.

To receive this award, Niagara Region has satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

“The Region’s Finance team continues to show their commitment to achieving the best industry reporting standards by receiving this award. We have an incredible team who continue to exemplify their amazing work ethic, collaborative spirit, and dedication to the quality of their work. We want to continue to be as transparent as possible in our budget process and the reporting that supports it.”
Dan Carnegie, Acting Commissioner of Corporate Services

These guidelines are designed to assess how an organization’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide; and
  • A communications device

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest award in governmental budgeting.
