HPV4 Vaccine
The HPV4 vaccine is no longer available for order and the current supply has expired. Visit niagararegion.ca/health/professionals for instructions on how to return unused HPV4 vaccine.
Transition to HPV9 Vaccine
- HPV9 can be offered to complete an HPV4 series or to start an HPV9 series for eligible students and high risk individuals
- Order using the school or high risk order forms at
niagararegion.ca/health/professionals
Finishing HPV4 Series
- The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends the use of HPV9 vaccine to complete a HPV4 series when
series cannot be completed with HPV4
- Clients finishing their HPV4 series with HPV9 should be informed that the protection against the additional 5 strains that HPV9 covers cannot be confirmed. Studies using a mixed regimen (interchangeability) of HPV vaccines were not performed for HPV9.
Administration
- Two doses are to be given to healthy clients starting the vaccine series under 15 years of age; three doses for clients starting the vaccine series at 15 years of age and older, and clients with certain immune-compromising conditions
Eligibility for the HPV9 Vaccine
- Clients who have completed their HPV4 series as of March 14, 2019 will be considered up-to-date with their HPV immunization and will not be eligible for publicly funded HPV9 vaccine
- If a client wishes to be fully protected against the additional five strains, they will need to purchase the additional HPV9 vaccine doses privately
- NACI states there is insufficient evidence at this time to
recommend, at a population level, re-immunization with HPV9 vaccine in individuals who have completed an immunization series with another HPV vaccine
