GARCIA ON THE GO
Making every day count
March 2017

Dear ,

Legislative Update

The 60th day of session on March 10, marks the deadline to file bills. I have filed legislation that I feel will greatly benefit the constituents of Senate District 6, and Texans across the state. These bills will ensure that all school children have access to nurses and counselors an librarians, that our roads are made safer, that our drinking water is clean, that immigrants don’t live in fear, and that equality for all is achieved, I am in Austin working hard to ensure the passage of all of these important bills. If you ever have any questions about pending legislation, please feel free to reach out to my office. And, if you are at the capitol, please stop by our office.

18th Annual Cesar Chavez Parade

The Tejano Association for Historical Preservation 18th Annual Cesar Chavez Parade and Celebration will be held Saturday, March 25th, 2017, at 10:00 am. The parade will begin on the corner of the 6700 block of Cesar Chavez and Canal Street. This is a great opportunity to show your support for the legacy of the Mexican-American labor activist Cesar E. Chavez. Be sure to bring the whole family. Festivities will conclude at 2pm.

Women's History Month

In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women's History Month in perpetuity. This is a time to reflect on how far women have come in society, and how far we still have to go before achieving true equality. While we have equal rights on the surface, women still face discrimination in the workplace, and have yet to achieve equal pay for equal work. Let us celebrate and give recognition to the trailblazers that came before us, but also be resolved to continue the fight for a more just Texas and America. Not just in our policies but in the public discourse of our elected representatives.

MESSAGE FROM SYLVIA

Spring break is around the corner for many, and I want to wish you all a fun and safe holiday. Also, March 11th will mark the fourth anniversary of my swearing-in as your State Senator. It has been a whirlwind experience, and I cherish every moment that I spend fighting on your behalf. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to serve you, and I pledge to never take lightly the responsibilities which you have bestowed upon me.

Putting people first,

Sylvia R. Garcia
