LOCAL HISTORY: NATIONAL GARDEN WEEK AT BRONTE HOUSE

One of Waverley's most famous gardens is located at Bronte House. Originally established by colonial architect William Mortimer Lewis, the 42 acre estate was purchased by the Lowe family in 1843. Georgiana Lowe was a keen gardener and botanist, and was responsible for the initial landscaping of the estate, incorporating native and exotic plants into picturesque walks. Now owned by Waverley Council, the house and garden can be experience in all its glory on one of its open days. Explore photos of the garden, watch a snippet about Bronte House on Gardening Australia, or read more about the history of Bronte House.
