Healthy hole in oneThrough our partnership with Golf WA, the inaugural Smarter than Smoking Healthy Golfer of the Year competition was launched in 2020. The competition was designed to engage, educate, and motivate junior tour participants who were unable to play golf during COVID-19 restrictions. Gecko ensembles enrolmentsThrough our partnership with Barking Gecko Theatre, we help to deliver the Gecko Ensembles program for young Western Australian children. Families under pressureThe Mental Health Commission launched a new campaign, Families Under Pressure, to contribute to improvements in child mental health and wellbeing. The campaign aims to provide parents and carers of children under the age of 12 years with tips and resources to support difficult behaviour, talk with their children about feelings and boost positive emotions. The workshop is supported through the Healthway and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Targeted Participation Program. Participants build up skills to create healthy food environments within their organisation and communities. Find out more. Put healthy on your club menuHealthway is offering funding of up to $4,000 to Western Australian community sporting clubs competing in a recognised competition over the 2021 winter season. The grants help to increase healthy food and drink options at club-run canteens, kiosks, or food services. Last year $186,340 was shared amongst 58 winter sporting clubs across Western Australia. Priorities for Action 2020-2025The Mental Health Commission released the Young People’s Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Use: Priorities for Action 2020-2025 (YPPA). The YPPA is a blueprint for how we can all play our part to support young people. It represents the voices of young people regarding services, treatment, and recovery. Find out more. Youth songwriting festivalLocal youth songwriters are encouraged to get involved in the 2021 Act Belong Commit Fairbridge Festival Quest competition. Through our partnership with FolkWorld young people can engage in community workshops to learn more about music and songwriting, and explore mental wellness and the importance of feeling connected in the community. Design a jersey competitionPerth Heat players recently ran out in a fan-designed jersey in support of our Alcohol. Think Again partnership round. The jersey featured a ‘hydrate well with water’ design to advocate water as the best choice during sport. Water coolers were recently installed at the bar area, near the canteen and in the dugouts to fuel healthy drink choices. Find out more. Caretaker period 2021 The Western Australian State Election will be held on Saturday 13 March 2021. In line with other state public sector agencies Healthway and Lotterywest will assume a caretaker role from early February 2021, and follow the guidelines which will be issued at the commencement of the caretaker period. During the caretaker period, we will continue to receive and assess grant funding applications, however funding decisions will be deferred until after the caretaker period has ended.
