Chairman's Message

This issue of our newsletter sees a new format having its inaugural run, with further changes and improvements to be made over the coming issues.

Equestrian Victoria (EV) received a small grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria to fund a skilled, part time digital media specialist who has been working very hard behind the scenes to bring about changes in our communications.

You will also notice over time, changes that will make the website more user friendly and easier to navigate, as well as a some streamlining of our Facebook pages.

Saddleworld Melbourne International 3 Day Event

The prestigious 2016 Saddleworld Melbourne International Three Day Event is truly a competition like no other.

The equestrian community united to celebrate true athleticism on the iconic Werribee Park stage with FEI classes highlighting the very best of our Australian based riders.

Record-breaking crowds were entertained by an eventing showcase with the beautiful elegance of dressage; the brave and bold cross country and the careful scope of our versatile athletes in the showjumping phase.  The event was the final chance for Rio hopefuls to impress the Olympic selectors, which created great anticipation and excitement. Equestrian Victoria wishes our Australian Olympic contenders the very best in representing our nation and our fine sport.

180 horses competed in the FEI classes and 42 young horse entries. 350 volunteers assisted with the running of the event and we are immensely grateful for their time and support. Without the commitment and assistance from these individuals, equestrian events would simply not run.

We are also thankful for our amazing sponsors for supporting and embracing our sport and we hope to continue and grow our relationship with corporate businesses for future events.

We look forward to seeing you again at the 2017 Melbourne International Three-Day Event.

Paralympic and Jumping Selections Announced

Emma Booth and Zidane to make their paralympic debut

Currently ranked as Australia’s number one Grade II rider, Emma is thrilled to be making her Paralympic debut this year. She will be competing with her horse, Zidane. “Being a Paralympian is something that will be with me for life. Something that no one can take away from me,” she said. “To know that we’ve earned the right to compete at the top of our sport is amazing and exciting. Three years ago, I didn’t think it would be possible, so to actually be doing it is unreal. ”

James Paterson-Robinson and Matt Williams Rio bound.

James Paterson-Robinson and Matt Williams have been rewarded for their impressive and consistent form to earn selection on the Rio 2016 Olympic Team. This will be Matt's third consecutive Olympic Team and along with Valinski S are to take on the world at Brazil. Matt is the son of our Jumping Victoria chair, Paul Williams – a proud dad for sure!

James, in his second Olympic Team selection, will ride Amarillo, whose form has been outstanding in the lead up. James is looking to improve on their London 2012 performance where they just missed out on the finals by one fault. An Australian team member since 2010 WEG, the hard work and dedication is paying off and we look forward to watching them ride in Rio.

2016-2017 Membership Renewal

It's that time of year again! Memberships for the 2016-2017 year are now due by 30 June 2016.

After this date, any member who does not renew will incur a $25 joining fee. It's also important to remember that to ensure you are fully insured you must renew BEFORE 3rd August 2016.

Don't miss out on being a member - it's going to be an exciting year ahead.

EVIC Staff Appointments

A number of key appointments have been made over the last couple of months, all with the aim of providing a better level of support to all EV members.

EA Helmet Standard

Equestrian Australia can advise that Helmet Standard EN1384 will remain effective until 31 December 2016. In addition, a new standard VG1 has been added to the General Regulations effective immediately. As of 1 January 2017 helmets with the EN1384 standard will not be permitted under EA’s General Regulations.

As per the EA General Regulations, Equestrian Australia highly recommends the use of helmets that conform to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3838, as this standard provides for more stringent testing and further periodic retesting.

Ashley Gray image

ASHLEY GRAY
Western Victoria Dressage Club

WVDC is proud to award Ashley Gray as our VOTM. Ashley quietly joined our committee 2 years ago. As an attentive listener, Ashley’s contributions to meetings are always calm and considered. When asked to manage a club competition, Ashley “blew us away” with organisational skills we hadn’t imagined.

Thank You Ashley.

I feel very honored to have received the nomination and privileged to be apart of such a wonderful club. It is a team effort and holding successful and enjoyable dressage events would not be possible without the support of everyone on the WVDC committee.
Happy Riding

Libby Farries image

LIBBY FARRIES

Libby is the smiling face behind the officials & volunteers catering at major EV events over many years. When a committee is forming to run a major event, Libby is the first to put up her hand. We have been able to rely on her efficient and welcoming service for many years.

Even though Libby’s equestrian daughter has moved overseas, the bonds of friendship forged through years of volunteering, draws her back to support our major events. Each of our big events is a time for volunteers like Libby to catch up with her huge group of equestrian friends. Libby is living proof of the reciprocal benefits in volunteering.

Love your work Libby.

Vale

The Victorian equestrian community has been shocked and saddened by the loss of two extraordinary members over the last couple of months.

We extend our deepest and heart felt sympathy to the friends and family of both these amazing ladies.
