Nicole Manison Media Release International Student Wellbeing Grants Open15 September 2021 International students choosing to study in the Territory will have better access to services and community inclusion thanks to a new round of grants from the Territory Government. Local businesses, student groups and community organisations are invited to apply for up to $10,000 in funding for activities and events that promote and improve the wellbeing of international students studying in the Territory. Applications for round one of the 2022 International Student Wellbeing Grant are now open and will close on Wednesday 13 October, with activities and events to take place from 1 January to 30 June 2022. Initiatives funded through this program have helped international students to connect and engage with other students, peers, businesses and Territory locals. Social connections and access to student support services are particularly important as COVID-19 continues to create additional challenges for international students. Student wellbeing is vital for growth in the international education and training sector. A positive experience shared by students has ongoing impacts in attracting further students to the Territory. Successful activities in 2021 include the Darwin international students Karaoke competition organised by the Global Cultural Exchange Company, a mental health resilience project run by the Australian Red Cross First Aid and Mental Health, and an International Students Multicultural Day delivered by Charles Darwin University. Applications are assessed against a selection criteria including program objectives, outcomes, value for money and promotion plans.
