Key points: · The regions with the fastest growing tourism spend over the year to September 2017 were West Coast, which increased 14 per cent to $544 million, followed by Tasman (up 14 per cent to $315 million) and Southland (up 10 per cent to $623 million). · West Coast tourism was supported by strong international spend, with the USA market increasing 30 per cent to $52 million and the German market increasing 35 per cent to $40 million compared with the year ending September 2016. Māori culture takes over Santa Monica PierIt's been the scene of Hollywood movies, now Māori culture has taken over the Santa Monica Pier with a breathtaking kapa haka performance. The display, set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, was part of events surrounding Tuku Iho | Living Legacy, which opened at Venice Beach's Rose Room on Monday. The exhibition is looking to replicate its runaway success in Washington DC earlier this year, which saw more than 250,000 people visit the exhibition and more than a million more engaging with it on social media.
