Niagara's water treatment plants earn A+ from Province

March 24, 2026

Niagara Region’s six water treatment plants earned a 100 per cent rating from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (the Ministry) following inspections conducted during the 2025-2026 period.

A perfect score reflects Niagara Region’s ongoing commitment to not only meeting, but exceeding, the province’s multi-barrier, health-based drinking water quality standards.

The Ministry conducts both scheduled and unannounced inspections of water treatment facilities each year to ensure compliance with provincial regulations. In addition to water quality monitoring, inspections assess a wide range of operational areas, including reporting practices, record keeping, and staff certification and training.

Providing safe, reliable drinking water and efficient service delivery remains a top priority for Niagara Region. Each day, approximately 160 million litres of water is treated and delivered as clean drinking water to Niagara residents and businesses. The amount of water infrastructure is part and parcel of Niagara Region's massive water-wastewater inventory that includes six water plants, 11 wastewater plants and more than 100 pumping stations.

“The confirmation that Niagara’s drinking water continues to rank among the best in Ontario is a great way to mark World Water Day this week,” said Phill Lambert, Director of Water-Wastewater Services. “Achieving 100 per cent compliance reflects the dedication and professionalism of Niagara Region’s Water-Wastewater staff, who work every day to protect public health and deliver clean, safe, and reliable drinking water.”
