Eight minutes and 46 seconds is a long time. That's how long George Floyd had a knee on his neck which led to his death. I am proud that I could kneel in silence for that amount time this morning along with all of University of Utah Health to support individuals of color and honor his struggle which represents the struggle of so many. As a human, I am responsible to help and love other human beings. As a physician, I took an oath to care for everyone, no matter their background, who they are, or what they have or have not done. At 11:00am today, healthcare professionals at University of Utah Health joined their counterparts across the country and took a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. #WhiteCoatsForBlackLives #BlackLivesMatter UAFP Awarded Grant to Host Implicit Bias Training in 2021UAFP is excited to announce we were awarded a grant from the AAFP Center for Diversity and Health Equity to host an implicit bias training for our family physician members and other healthcare providers across the state. Utah is among eleven states awarded funding for this critical training to address health inequity and health disparities in the U.S. AAFP has identified four strategic priorities that will guide their work for The EveryONE Project. UTAH COVID-19 UPDATESVetted PPE Vendors in UtahThe state of Utah has developed a spreadsheet of vetted Utah vendors for PPE products. The spreadsheet is updated as additional vendors apply to be included on the list and are vetted by the state. The spreadsheet is available HERE. The state has also published an information sheet about PPE Resources for Small Businesses. Physicians can contact their county or regional health department to request urgently needed supplies. Utah Medicaid Will Now Cover COVID-19 Testing for Uninsured ResidentsThe Utah Department of Health (UDOH) today announced this week Utah Medicaid will now cover COVID-19-related diagnostic testing and services for uninsured individuals. This new program will be effective June 1, 2020 through the duration of the public health emergency. Covered services include COVID-19 testing, as well as serological tests to determine the presence of the virus antibodies. Related services covered include the administration of the test and evaluations related to testing, such as x-rays. Learn more here.
