Philanthropic Foundations Canada (PFC) has made a strategic shift to play a larger role in engaging governments, civil society partners, and influencers to support Canadian philanthropy – in all of its diversity -- to contribute to a just and sustainable world. To that end, the Director of Policy and Communications is responsible for aligning and amplifying PFC efforts in advocacy and communications based on insights from our research and programs. This report seeks to fill in key gaps in climate action by reviewing internal decision-making criteria, bringing co-benefits to the forefront, convening to build strength in numbers and diversity, and investing strategically and deliberately. Read More SDG Partnerships Agenda 2030: Accelerating Progress Council on Foundations’ resource argues that “without a dramatic shift, we will not reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) until 2073.” To accelerate progress, it seeks to increase emphasis on multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs). It also proposes four calls to action agendas for partnerships: recognize the power, radically expand networks, make every dollar count, and move to accountability. Read More COVID-19: Human Development on Course to Decline This Year for the First Time Since 1990 The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) argues that closing the digital divide would reduce by more than “two-thirds the number of children currently not learning because of school closures.” As COVID-19 is a magnifying glass for global inequalities, this piece recommends five priority steps to tackle the complexity of this crisis: protect health systems, ramp up job protection, make macroeconomic policies work for everyone, and promote peace, good governance, and trust to build social cohesion.
