Newsletter: July 2015

Welcome to the July edition of the Inclusion International newsletter.  In this edition you can read about Inclusion International's project on participation of self-advocates in voting and political participation; our efforts in Africa to contribute to the framework for financing the Sustainable Development Goals; our collaboration with University College London to combat negative attitudes towards people with intellectual disabilities and much more.  In Focus this month features our Ghanaian member organization (Inclusion Ghana) and in the news hub our members share their stories about work and events in their countries.

We hope you will take advantage of one of the various events and conferences in the coming months hosted by our member organizations: The Arc of the United States, The Canadian Association for Community Living, the International Disability Alliance workshop in Brazil or the Inclusion Europe self-advocacy conference in Madrid.  These events provide opportunities for members to share information and experiences about their work in promoting inclusion.

II Releases Inclusive Civic Engagement Information Toolkits

Inclusion International is pleased to release resources to support the political participation of people with intellectual disabilities.  Our member around the world have pointed to barriers to participation in processes of civil engagement including voting and other political participation as a factor in the continued social and economic exclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.   These toolkits have been developed as part of an Inclusion International project, Accessing the Ballot Box, funded by the UN Democracy Fund. The project was designed to address the limited political participation of people with intellectual disabilities in Kenya, Zanzibar and Lebanon however the toolkits are resources designed to be used globally.
