LCA Grow Ministries Newsletter - February 2017 No Images? Click here Cup filled? Yes please! How often has someone given you advice? Has it been hard to take? Has it depended on the relationship you have with the giver? Do you have a relationship with someone who you trust enough, who knows you well, who can shed light on something in your life? There is a shared, trusted and open relationship between Moses and Jethro that you can read about in Exodus 18. Moses clearly appreciates Jethro’s insight and advice and acts on it straight away. This is a beautiful moment where Moses is so inwardly trying to do all the right things that he can’t see the bigger picture. He hasn’t got the outside vision Jethro can share with him. Jethro is certainly a mentor for Moses. Jethro took the time to walk alongside Moses. He shared in some wonderful news and he cared enough for Moses that he could shed some light and guide him through a difficult situation. Jethro’s visit certainly nourished Moses to continue to lead the people. We all need mentors through the journey of life. Who encourages you in your faith walk? Who is walking alongside you? Who is filling your cup? At the very least, your relationship with God needs to be strong. Walk with God daily, through prayer, worship and the reading of his word. Regular filling is required! ‘As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another’ Proverbs 27:17 Widening the CircleWhen you were growing up, did you have a special person in your life who did things with you, gave you advice, or was a good listener? This person may have been a relative or family friend who was older than you. If so, then you had a mentor. Find out why mentoring is so important in today's world..... Jesus' own life experience reflected God's design for the healthy growth of children and young people: it is meant to be the product of a community of generations, living, sharing and growing together. For many children and young people today there is no Anna or Simeon.
