Latest Information and updates from GCAce No images? Click here What's on Term 1 2022AND WE ARE BACK!! With Schools having to stay in Level 3 restriction until 31st December 2021, it meant that no face to face courses could be scheduled until this year. Now we are under Red Light of the Covid Protection Framework Policy, we can continue!! The following guidelines are in place for everyone's Health and safety:- All Tutors and Attendees must be fully vaccinated. (Covid Passports must be sighted) Masks must be worn during the class. Classrooms open for ventilation. Hand Sanitiser and Wipes available for use. Minimum of 1 metre distancing with some courses being capped to lower numbers to ensure this can happen. All Attendees must sign in using either the Covid Tracer App or Manual sign in. . About Community EducationOur program incorporates 2 types of courses. Those that are partially funded by the Government and those that are self-funded. The funding we receive helps adults in our community with foundation skills and creates pathways into other learning opportunities that help the Community overall. Courses that are funded are for New Zealand Citizens or Residents whose learning may not have been sufficient at the end of Secondary School and including helping improving literacy and numeracy skills, digital and financial literacy, workplace and life skills, improving health and wellbing and of course Te Reo, ESOL, NZ Sign, Pacific and Asian Languages. Verification of ID is required for these courses to allow us to apply the funding, so please do not be offended if we ask for this. This is a requirement of our funding. Self-funded courses are all other courses we offer like Sewing, Art, DIY and home maintenance, etc. For these courses there is no different rates for Citizens/Residents and other visa's. They are open to anyone wishing to attend and we don't need to verify you by any ID for these. Why Community Education? Typically Community Education within Schools allows programs to be run without the high overheads of hiring facilities and equipment. Because Schools usually do have those facilities already and they aren't being used after School hours, it makes sense to make use of those facilities and allow members of our Community to gain skills and learn a new craft or language. The other main aspect of Community Education is what was highlighted during our first lockdown. The Social aspect of Adult coming together for a chat and a laugh whilst learning something new is so vitally important. With many families now spread out across the World, lonliness is something that can easily creep in. Attending Community classes like ours allows new friendships to develop with those attending and like minds.
