Get Involved with the SSCCC

By Emma McNellis, Vice President of Regional Affairs

Are you interested in becoming more involved in regional and statewide student advocacy and leadership? If yes, you should run for a SSCCC Regional Officer position! The Regions of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges will hold elections for the 2021-2022 Executive Board during their May Delegate Assembly. The Executive Board positions are the Regional Affairs Director, Vice Chair, Legislative Affairs Director, Treasurer, and Communications Officer. This is a great opportunity for students to become more involved at a statewide level. Regional officers are able to make a positive impact in their community by advocating for student needs in many areas such as student enfranchisement, basic needs, financial aid reform, and more.

If you are interested in running for a regional officer position, the following are a few important dates to keep in mind.

  • Friday, April 23rd by 11:59 PM - Candidate Eligibility Form and Candidate Statement must be submitted by the student candidate's advisor or college official to verify@studentsenateccc.org.

  • 4th Week of April - The Executive Director will verify eligibility and notify all applicants of their eligibility.

  • 1st week of May - Candidate statements are distributed to the region and posted on the SSCCC region webpage.

  • May Delegate Assembly - Regional elections will be held.

SSCCC Fun Facts

Did you know that this year is only the second year that the Delegate Assembly elected the Board Officers?  Since its inception in 2006, the Delegates granted to the Board of Directors the authority to elect the Board Officers from the Regional Affairs Directors and Legislative Affairs Directors elected in each region for that term. In 2020, the Delegates amended the constitution to change the election process so that now the Delegates elect the Board Officers during the Spring General Assembly.
