Metro News2020 Forum leadership team electedCongratulations to Cr Lina Messina (Darebin City Council), who was elected Metropolitan Local Government Waste Forum (Forum) Chair for 2020 on Thursday 6 February. Congratulations also to Cr Dot Haynes (Manningham Council) elected to the position of Deputy Chair. Cr Collin Ross (Cardinia Shire Council), Cr Megan Bridger-Darling (Maribyrnong City Council), Cr Peter Castaldo (Banyule City Council) and Cr Haynes were elected to the Forum’s Strategies and Policy Advocacy Group (SPAG). We look forward to working with the Forum to enhance municipal waste management, resource recovery and planning through the 31 councils of metropolitan Melbourne. Councils showcase innovative kerbside reformsAt the first Forum meeting of 2020, Hobsons Bay City Council and the City of Yarra presented their innovative kerbside recycling solutions in the wake of the recycling crisis. Competition to help gardens bloom across VictoriaThe Victorian Garden Competition, part of our Back to Earth Initiative, will run from March to June 2020. Kindergartens, schools and community groups will be able to nominate gardening or environmental projects to win up to $5,000. Events and professional developmentMonitoring and evaluation planning workshopFor local government We are holding a training workshop for councils on planning the monitoring and evaluation of a Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) collection service on Wednesday, 26 February. This training supports MWRRG’s Introducing a kerbside food and garden organics collection service – A guide for local government, which brings together the latest research, modelling and lessons from FOGO pioneers to help councils successfully plan and rollout their own service. These images are the latest resource for councils signed up to the Back to Earth Initiative and can be used for digital or print collateral, on your website or social.
