JPC Key Messages - Week 10, Term 1 2020 No images? Click here JPC Key Message Week 10, Term 1 2020From the PrincipalMy goodness… what a term and what a start to 2020! Who could have imagined that 2020 would be such a complex and challenging year, not only for us but for so many people across Australia and around the world? Can I say a huge thank you to all the lovely messages that we have continued to receive from parents, which acknowledge the work that has been done by the JPC staff? Can I also return the thanks to our parents and students who have been working hard in a very difficult situation? We are aware that working from home and supervising children is presenting all sorts of new challenges - not the least is sharing the internet!! Many of our staff are also now working from home and are also balancing the juggling act of teaching and supervising their own children’s learning. I would also like to apologise for the inundation of e-mails that some students have experienced – we have realised that our learning platforms send out notifications to students – which are useful when we use messaging occasionally but are causing a huge problem when messaging students is our main form of communication. We are hoping this glitch is now fixed, but please let us know if there continues to be a problem. Today in PC students and staff shared a You-tube video of the Stations of the Cross that was put together by Mrs Jen Tually and involved a number of our students and staff. It was a poignant and moving experience and also showcased our beautiful artwork that is in the chapel and depicts the Stations of the Cross and the events of Holy Thursday. I have spent many Good Fridays at Mass and have prayed and participated in many Stations of the Cross but I must say this was one of the most personal and moving ones that I have been privileged to be part of. The You-tube link is available on Moodle and in the article below. I encourage you to take the time to engage in this prayerful opportunity. Staff have also put together an Easter message that I am sure you will enjoy viewing that reflects the joy that is Easter Sunday, see the link at the bottom of Jen Tually's message below. As we head into the Easter break I wish you all a Happy and safe Easter. In these uncertain times, there are some things that don’t change and that is the love and support of family and friends and the reassurance that we are in God’s hands. Keep safe and well. Stephanie The Blessing and Launch of the JPC Chapel Artworks – by videoThe Stations of the Cross Liturgy‘Bread Broken’ series by Sr Mary Stephens Easter, 2020 Today, on Holy Thursday, we prepared ourselves for Jesus’ death and resurrection over Easter, and, as part of this liturgy, we formally launched the new artwork series of Stations of the Cross prints – Bread Broken - that were installed in our Chapel in 2019, and blessed by Father Mark Croker last week. These images are the inspiration for today’s Easter Liturgy video which was used with all students in PC online lessons and staff for our Stations of the Cross devotions. The artwork from the Chapel is featured throughout, and the presenters highlight the ways in which the theme of ‘Hands’ is depicted. Our College Leaders - Georgia Wallace and Gage King, College Leader for Peace - Paris Morris, our 2 Youth Ministers - Nick Barry and Caitlyn D’Cruze, members of the JPC Youth Ministry Team – Emma Bramham, Tia Morris, Ashish Nair and Elizabeth Bramham, along with many members of staff, collaborated from their remote learning locations to create a beautiful reflection on the journey that Jesus took from the Last Supper to His arrest and then through the 14 Stations of the Cross. The Blessing of the Art, by Father Mark Croker, is also featured in the video. From the ‘Bread Broken’ series by Sr Mary Stephens The use of hands belonging to Jesus and others beautifully depicts the breadth of Jesus’ humanity – fear, despair, humility, pain, pity, vulnerability, and yet, there is also power, strength, gentleness, forgiveness and love. This resonates with us in our own existence, as our hands too experience His human emotion – when we hold on tight with fear or love, when we make a fist in anger or frustration when we caress another with care or tenderness. Please take the time to view this today, tomorrow or over Easter – create a special, quiet space; ask your family to join you, and watch the video and join in the prayers along the way as you walk with Jesus to His death and resurrection. Reflect on these powerful images and the words spoken – they will help you connect with the theme of ‘Hands’ in the artworks. Be open to an encounter with Jesus as a man. To follow this sombre experience, please ensure you and your family access some of the online Easter services (information below) that will be presented by our Holy Family Parish, Canberra-Goulburn Archdiocese, or by Pope Francis, to celebrate the joy of Jesus’ resurrection. Enjoy the Easter break with your family, and see you in Term 2! In and Around JPCMET Gala Monday!Week 10 wasn’t the usual wind downtime for some students, with Monday being MET Gala themed for some of Miss Allan and Miss McCallum’s classes! The annual MET Gala is a celebration of all things extravagant when it comes to fashion. Being cancelled this year, and with remote learning being a constant struggle between engagement and the mundane, Miss Allan and Miss McCallum were determined to liven up their classes – or at least provide a bit of comic relief. Miss McCallum’s Pastoral Care class and Miss Allan’s Year 11 Literature class came to the party with their best MET Gala-inspired headwear or background, showing just how far you can go with creativity when inspiration is confined to the everyday objects in your household! Well done to these amazing students for getting involved and keeping their spirits up – you were FABulous. 2021 Enrolment - OPEN NOWEnrolment for year 7 and all other years in 2021 are now open. During these stressful and uncertain times, managing mind-state on the road is more important than ever and it provides you with a great teaching moment for your kids. Road Safety Tip #1 Safe driving through a crisis One of the hardest of things to do amidst the COVID-19 crisis is to switch off the clutter in our minds and be present in every moment. This can be particularly difficult when you’re behind the wheel making that rare and quick trip for essential supplies, getting to and from work or helping the vulnerable in our community. In these moments you might find more anxiety and stress creeping into your driving. Learn how commentary driving and mindfulness can help you stay focussed and safe on the roads in our latest road safety blog post. Watch one of RYDA’s great driving instructors as he gives you an inside view into a highly effective driving lesson technique. |
