Netting goals for a healthy WA

Healthway, Netball WA and West Coast Fever (Fever) will partner on a new state-wide strategy aimed at encouraging physical activity and creating healthy eating habits for the Western Australian community.  A key outcome will be greater access to healthier food and drink choices at community netball venues.The Fever team will integrate the LiveLighter message across their brand and deliver nutrition education through their community program. Find out more.

Super fruity story book

Foodbank WA recently launched Let's Eat - a story book to teach Aboriginal students the benefits of eating both traditional bush foods and contemporary everyday foods to grow strong and healthy. Foodbank WA works in partnership with Healthway to develop a range of nutrition education resources for Aboriginal students, and students living in regional and remote locations. AWESOME Arts Creative Challenge

The AWESOME Arts 2018 Creative Challenge visited Christian Aboriginal Parent-directed School Kurrawang at the end of August with a new arts project, Different Voices. The project is designed for remote and regional schools and is presented in partnership with Healthway promoting the ‘Go for 2&5 health message. Find out more.

New alcohol education campaign for parents

A new Alcohol. Think Again campaign urging parents to restrict their children drinking alcohol until they turn 18 years old has launched ahead of end of school year celebrations. Preventing harm from alcohol among young people is a key priority area for Healthway, which has invested in this public education campaign since it launched in 2012, and recently provided more than $2 million to extend the campaign until 2021. Healthy Active by Design workshop

Proudly supported by Healthway, Healthy Active by Design is running a free workshop on the 28 November - Healthy food in the built envirnoment. Speakers from the Heart Foundation (WA), Edith Cowan University, Local Government and the Private Sector will talk about the emerging evidence needed to advocate for change, and future strategies for policy responses to support availability to and access of healthy food. Find out more.

Sugary drinks seminar

Creating healthier settings

LiveLighter® in partnership with Healthway and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries recently invited Kirstan Corben, Health Promotion expert, to present to sporting codes and club associations. Kirstan shared her experiences in decreasing sugary drinks in sport settings and creating healthier sport settings. Small, practical and quick strategies which didn’t affect business profits were presented and well received by the attendees. Find out more.

New grant making approach

The new Community Investment Framework is Lotterywest and Healthway’s new grant making strategy. The Framework details how both organisations will invest to achieve stronger outcomes to build a better and a healthier WA. Active Healthy People is one of the five key priorty areas, and is focused on assisting the community to be more active and support initiatives which promote healthy lives.
