Meeting Minutes

Meeting Highlights From November 5th, 2020 business meeting. In the Good of the Order, we reflected on the meaning of the upcoming Advent season. Our council discussed potential activities and programs for the Advent season, both personal reflection and service for our parish. Here are compiled notes from Good of the Order:

  • The goal of this Good of the Order was to inspire our council's pursuit of programs and activities for the Advent season as well as prepare for a deeper discussion with our guest speaker at the December meeting.
  •  Brothers shared what the Advent season means to them and how it has been celebrated in the past.
  • We watched two videos on Advent one related to spiritual life and the other a challenge to oneself this Advent. A third video is included in this email.
  • Brother Mike Walsh suggested listening to the Talking Catholic Podcast episode "Advent - Fr. Robert Sinatra" which you can listen to online or with Apple podcast or similar platform.

The following programs and activities were discussed as potential initiatives:

  • Posada: See this program for more information. The Hispanic community has done this in the past. We would like to support this and have it be Bilingual.
  • Retreat for Brother Knights: A retreat to grow the faith and spiritual life of our brother Knights. We moved to start a committee for this. Stay tuned for more information.
  • Keep Christ In Christmas (KCIC): We may help judge the KCIC poster competition with the Clayton council. We may also offer KCIC items at St. Bridgets UP.
  • We would like to have prayer cards available at the church so parishioners can learn more about the KofC as well as our council.

We also discussed  the new Hall work (see Clean up for new meeting hall)

About Assumption Council 3397

Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society.

Assumption 3397 chartered January 07, 1951. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. Assumption 3397 was formed to render aid and assistance to sick, disabled, and poverty-stricken parishioners of St. Bridget’s along with our council’s members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, and public relief works.

Our membership stays strong with growth up to 67 members with a strong core of devoted catholic brothers living the mission of Father McGivney. Our order is stronger during these trying times than ever before. As you can witness in our weekly mass, parish events, donations on a community and larger level, during trying times, we come together in unity for the betterment of each other.
