Hi

It feels as though I blinked and found myself well into the New Year. The CFACT Committee have been busily preparing our full calendar of activities and had a great start to the year.

With May being the National Awareness Month for Cystic Fibrosis, there are lots of things happening and lots of ways you can get involved with CFACT. I invite you all to join the Committee to raise awareness and funds by selling a merchandise box, taking on a '65' challenge and attend the 65 Roses Gala. Find out more below.

Over the past two months I have had the opportunity to visit the Paediatric CF Clinic at the Canberra Hospital. This was a wonderful opportunity to meet with Members and put faces to names. I would like to commend the staff at the Canberra Hospital, particularly, Dr Tim McDonald, Catherine Campbell and Fiona Matthews, for their work in enhancing services to our families in the Paediatric CF Clinic. Moving forward we progress with discussing the possibility of establishing an Adult Clinic with the Canberra Hospital. You can visit our Services Page for updated information on the Paediatric CF Clinic. I look forward to meeting more members in the future.

We have improved the ways you can connect with us, including a redeveloped website with online membership renewal, ticketing and merchandise sales, a new e-communications platform and increased activity on our facebook page. Still to come - members assistance claims online and unique opportunities to connect with our community.

Nationally there has been exceptional progress with CF Australia and all state and territory bodies working more closely together to provide greater support to people living with Cystic Fibrosis across the country. You may remember at our 2012 AGM we approved the recruitment of the first Staff Member for CFACT. In collaboration with CFNSW we are now in the process of recruiting a full time Development Manager that will build partnerships, increase fundraising and expand service delivery for both CFNSW and CFACT.

I look forward to the year ahead and encourage you to contact me should you have the opportunity, need a chat or want to participate.

Regards,
Heidi Bock

May is Cystic Fibrosis (CF) awareness month and we are calling for your support to make a difference to the lives of people living with CF.

A person with CF..

  • Spends 108 minutes a day on treatments just to survive
  • Takes 40 enzyme tablets a day to assist digestion
  • Has an average life expectancy in the mid 30's
  • 19 is the average age of the CF population

Can you do 65 and make a difference?

Get on board with the 65 Roses Challenge by hosting or participating in a fundraising event themed around the number '65'.

  • Family movie marathon? Get through 65 movies this month?
  • Swim 65 laps of the pool, before the warm weather leaves us!
  • Sell or maybe eat 65 cupcakes?
  • Host a dinner for 65 people (excuse for a party)

Host a 65 Roses merchandise box

May is 65 Roses month that raises national awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. If you or your workplace would be interested in hosting a box, please send an email with your contact details to info@cfact.org.au and we will get one to you.

2013 design Pins and Pen's @ $5 each. One whole box raises the cost of 6 month supply of Creon capsules that assists with digestion.

THANK YOU!

Support from the local community is so important and we would like to thank a few recent fundraisers for their HUGE effort.

Carl Dewhurst ran in the
Canberra Running Festival last weekend.

He is self described as 'not a runner',
but joined by his family and friends
and a CF cap on his head, Carl was full of determination to make it to the finish line.

Carl raised over $1,600 for CFACT
in honour of his late friend Graham Millar.

Congratulations and thank you to Carl and those who donated in support of his run
for your big effort.
