EQUESTRIAN VICTORIA NEWS

January 2017 Edition

Ingrid Green EV Chair

FROM THE CHAIR

Happy New Year to all members!
By now most of us will be settled back into a more 'normal' routine with the majority of the summer holidays over for yet another year.

There's been no 'holiday' for the equestrian world though, with the Victorian Young Rider Dressage Championships, WPNEC Summer Show, Boneo Classic, various squads, training days and a host of other events being held throughout the state.

I would like to remind all riders that the new year sees NEW RULES COME INTO PLAY, and that it is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of these changes.

THIS MONTH SEES THE APPOINTMENT OF 2 VICTORIANS to the Australian Dressage Judges Committee (ADJC) - Virginia Creed and Jane Ventura. We congratulate them on their achievement.

Virginia, along with Fiona Selby, has also been appointed to the Australian Dressage Committee (ADC) following fellow Victorian KERRY MACK'S retirement from her position on the ADC. Kerry has made an enormous contribution to the sport over the past four years. Thank-you Kerry from all involved in Dressage, and congratulations to Virginia and Fiona.

THE NATIONAL SHOW HORSE RULES have been rewritten and were brought into effect on January, 1 2017. Mitchell  Fox, Chair of Show Horse Victoria, together with Ian Percy, has dedicated an enormous amount of time and effort into drafting these new rules which were ratified by the National body in late 2016. Heart felt thanks to these two dedicated volunteers for bringing about this significant achievement.

TRIPLE OLYMPIAN AND WORLD GAMES COMPETITOR, Matt Williams has been on home soil this summer and many Jumpers have taken advantage of this rare opportunity to hone both their own and their horses techniques.Matt has also had catch rides at shows throughout the summer.

AT THE TIME OF WRITING, VICTORIAN RIDER JASMINE DENNISON, is competing in New Zealand as a member of the Australian Young Rider Show Jumping team. Jasmine is no stranger to international competition having represented Australia 🇦🇺 at the World FEI children's Championships as well as other competitions around the world. Jasmine was the Australian Junior Jumping Champion in 2014 and 2015 and was equal champion in the South Australian Senior Open title.

Until next month ...

The 2017 Barastoc Horse of the Year show is now less than 2 weeks away and planning is well and truly in motion.

Trust Distribution

January 2017 marks the first distribution from the Eventing Trust. The trust has been established by the Eventing Committee under the guidance of Paul Stephens of Nevett Ford Lawyers.

The Trustees are members of the Eventing Committee. Over $34,000 has so far been provided to organising committees for safety initiatives. The trust also pays the on-site medical services at all eventing competitors throughout Victoria, which for the 2015/2016 financial year amounted to over $45,000.We have also provided financial assistance for officials attending seminars to update their skills.

The Eventing Committee would like to thank the riders and Organising Committees for their support in helping us get this initiative up and running. Any eventing member wishing for more details feel free to contact us at any stage.

January Eventing Squad

Over 165 combinations took part in our January Eventing Squad. Prydes Senior Squad, Equissage Young Rider Squad & the Development Squad came together with fourteen experienced coaches to start the season off on the right foot.

It was a busy venue over the weekend as we were joined by the Heavy Horse Festival and the VPC Polo tournament.

Everyone managed to squeeze in nicely & there was lots to watch in between lessons. Prue Barrett coached the High Performance group as well as sharing her Rio Olympic experiences with us on Saturday night.

Thank you to our coaches and all the riders & support crew who help set up & most importantly pack up! Special thanks to Jill Innes-Irons for providing coaches lunches on both days.

Thanks Tim Herbert for the photos.

Victorian Youth Dressage Championships

13 - 15 January 2017

In spite of a wide range of weather conditions the Ellanbrae Park Victorian Youth Dressage Championships proved to be a showcase for both talented established riders and those who are on the way to a bright future. Tests from Preliminary
to Grand Prix attracted almost 200 riders to Boneo Park including a team of New Zealand riders together with entrants from New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and a very strong Victorian contingent.

Twenty championships were decided with many riders opting to ride the FEI tests for ponies, junior & young riders and Under 25 Grand Prix as well as national tests. Meet the 2017 DJWTS Dressage Guest Star - Johannes Westendarp

Event Dates: Friday 24 - Sunday 26 March 2017
Saddleworld Dressage Masterclass: Sunday 26 March 2017, Indoor Arena

This year’s guest star and presenter of the SADDLEWORLD DRESSAGE MASTERCLASS will be Johannes Westendarp from Germany.

Some of the horses Johannes has ‘discovered’ need no introduction to Australian dressage fans, think Maree Tomkinson’s wonderful mares Diamantina or Donna Elena, Holly Cutler’s Diva Royale or Revelwood Stud’s Grand Prix stallion Ferrero Rocher. Then there's the late Hanoverian sire Wolkentanz II and countless Bundeschampionate finalists.

Johannes and his wife Ines are very respected trainers of young dressage horses and their stable is the go-to address for performance horse buyers from around the world, who value his expert eye for future stars.

Johannes was the head rider at the Vechta Elite Auctions for 15 years. He trained and competed several Bundeschampionate Champions such as licensed stallions Alabaster, Weltspitze, Rendezvous and Der Euro. He is also an accomplished breeder and stud manager, having identified and prepared many elite mares and licensing champions.

The Westendarp family is renowned for young horse education and training and we are excited to have Johannes Westendarp’s expertise here at the Young Dressage Horse Championships. He will also share his knowledge and experience in the Saddleworld Dressage Masterclass with select horse and rider combinations.

We will soon invite applications from riders and owners of young dressage horses. Application forms will be available on www.djwts.com.au
