NACY NewsNobody's Born a Racist 2.0Nobody’s Born a Racist 2.0 is the Students Commission’s 10 year strategy commitment to combatting racism across Canada. Through the formation of an Editorial board of youth advisors, alumni and adult allies, The SCC will spearhead initiatives centred in education, research and knowledge mobilization to influence systems and network partners to take action against Racism. The Nobody’s Born A Racist 2.0 Speaker Series is one of our initial projects. Nobody's Born A Racist 2.0 Speaker Series: The Nobody's Born a Racist (NBR) Speaker Series is a 12-month project that engages over 600 Canadian youth aged 12-29 in a national movement to combat systemic racism. Youth will work with experts, share their experiences dealing with racism, act and provide recommendations to decision makers. The innovative speaker series will engage Canadian youth from coast-to-coast-to-coast in a 360 educational opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the importance of anti-racism education, addressing structural inequities in society, healing and supports for radicalized communities. The NBR Speaker Series will spotlight 12 influential figures that are academics, speakers, Students Commission alumni ,educators, youth, and organizational leaders that will lead several relevant conversations on racism. We are in the process of recruiting for our Editorial Board of youth who will be leading and advising this process. Upcoming OpportunitiesU-Report Canada is celebrating a new milestone - reaching 1000 U-Reporters! U-Report is a digital platform for youth that gathers their views about current issues and decisions that affect them. It is an opportunity for diverse young people from different communities across the country to speak out on topics that matter to them. Save The Date!For the third year in a row, UNICEF Canada will be marking National Child Day by hosting a national Youth Activism Summit. This intergenerational event on Friday, November 19 will be co-lead by and bring together young people from across Canada to discuss their advocacy causes and recommendations for a better future with supporting adults and decision-makers. The Summit will take place from 1pm – 2:30pm EST. “Pick and choose” side events led by youth will take place November 19 and 21. Follow @OneYouthCanada on social media for event updates. Our Building Young Entrepreneurs (BYE) programme just launched a recruitment for mentors and employers for the programme's mentorship and internship phase. The goal of our BYE programme is to support and bridge multi-barriered youth to career opportunities by providing them with the right tools, professional experience, and continued learning opportunities. Dear mentors and employers - it’s your time to shine! The United Nations Association in Canada’s Building Young Entrepreneurs programme is proud to announce the official recruitment of mentors and employers for our 2021 cohort. Since May 8th, our participants have been learning new skills and attending core workshops to enlarge their horizons and strengthen their knowledge. They are eager, trained and ready for more. Register to become a mentor for a group of three (3) brilliant young people, or propel a youth’s career forward by hosting an intern for a 6-month placement with the opportunity to save on 50% of the wage subsidy.
