Markets - We grow things sustainably!

Organic Circle

With great weather forecast for this Saturday, come down and support your local farmers at Perth City Farm’s markets. This week sees the return of Solar Fruits to Perth City Farm with their great range of healthy snacks, dried fruits and conserves.

Also back and fully stocked is Mat Longworth from Laterite Ridge, who will be stocking a full range of chicken and his amazing quail from Laterite Ridge with plenty of eggs in stock. This week we are also again selling fresh Dandaragan Organic Beef, one of the best producers in WA of certified organic, and absolutely delicious beef. And taking pre-order for full sides of organic lamb for next week!
Robbie & Andrew from The Wood Fired Baker will be making us some organic hamburger buns so you can try a 100% organic hamburger made from produce sourced completely at our own Market for a super price of $8.00! And make sure you come and get some of the Wood Fired Baker's ORGANIC Hot Cross buns while they are hot for the next 2 weeks!

A full list of market stalls for this week can be found here on our website!

GRO Project update

Oyster mushrooms

There are busy & exciting times afoot amongst the GRO Project staff & volunteers. We had a steep learning curve dealing with the natural phenomonen of  fungi competitors embedding themselves in our nutritious substrates. We wanted oyster mushrooms, not uninvited guests! So, we went back to basics. We built & sourced much needed equipment & redefined our methodology. Now, we're looking far more ship shape as a mushroom farm, and we're happy to say, we're around 6 weeks out from having a nice flush of gourmet mushrooms beautifying our otherwise plain looking shelves in the mushroom fruiting room. Go the mighty shroom.

One of the highlights of the project is that we are sourcing local waste streams & growing our delectables on them. Resource efficiency is where it's at. Free grow mixes & nutritient bases providing a food source for the community.

There is still a fair way to go however for the whole project, and we can use assistance from many skill sets. The process of theoretical learning, applying it, being inventive & resourceful, & watching the fruits of consistent labour flourish into a functional farm is both rewarding & engaging. I highly recommend coming down and checking it out, along with the vibrant space created here for everyone at the farm.
