Redwood Cup #3 Results

The race on Saturday suffered extremely light winds but our gallant SYC sailors persevered.

Congratulations to Head Rush (Charlie Watt, Antrim 27) for taking first place, and to Wildy (Jenny Thompson, Wilderness 30) and Relentless (Tracy Rogers, J/92) for taking second and third place respectively.

Commodore Mayne's Got Chili

This last weekend Nick and Robin Weber hosted the Sequoia Chili Cook-off.  And what an outstanding event it was!  The Webers and their crew accepted the 11 dishes and kept them cooking or warming while we all went out for Redwood Drift # 3.

Upon our return the dining room was set up, the Crock Pots were bubbling, the sample cups were passed out and the chili contest commenced!  We had over 40 judges – each an expert -- judging flavor, color and aroma among other qualities.

I was so impressed with the Weber’s efforts – they even sewed the ribbons awarded that afternoon.  But they had help!  Thank you to Theresa Howard, Rick and Petra Gilmore, Cody Hmelar, Lina and Sue.

And we had winners!  Cathy Moyer took 3rd place, Chris Hartman nailed 2nd place and Past Commodore Larry Mayne blew everyone away with first place.  Congratulations to you all.

Let's Go Cruising!

During a recent cruise out while sitting on Agave sipping a cocktail with Michele Hartman, I described an idea I've had to draw attention to our club when visiting other marinas for club cruise outs.  I've noticed that big flags often fly from masts to draw attention to things like boats for sale, etc, and they look kinda cool.

We pondered doing something similar with a very large SYC burgee to raise awareness of the yellow and green.  Fast forward and this week... Michele surprised me with a GIANT Sequoia YC burgee that she made!

And so, I'm very excited to announce that during this month's cruise out to South Beach, WebTide will proudly fly for the first time the "SYC Cruise Out Burgee" from high atop her mast, letting everyone know, Sequoia's in the house!
