Dan Carnegie has spent more than thirty years in the public sector holding positions with Toronto Hydro, the Town of Oakville, the City of Oshawa and most recently, prior to his work with Niagara Region, with the City of St. Catharines as their Chief Administrative Officer from 2014 to 2017. For the past four months Carnegie has been serving as the temporary Commissioner of Public Works for Niagara Region. During his time with the City of St. Catharines Dan was instrumental in the delivery of a number of significant projects and initiatives including his work with Niagara Region and local area municipalities to secure a Provincial commitment for all day GO Train service to Niagara. This early work with transit helped to establish the framework for the amalgamation of transit that has now translated into the creation of the Niagara Transit Commission. His work at the City of St. Catharines also saw him champion the creation of a Customer Service section within the City that aimed to provide a one-stop portal for citizens and businesses. The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is a new position for Niagara Region. The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer will oversee the work of the Clerks, and Strategic Communications and Public Affairs divisions, as well as the government relations activities of the Region. The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer position is being held as a temporary position for now as we navigate any potential organizational changes that may come from the Provincial government’s review of Regional Governments. Carnegie will begin his role as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer on Oct. 30, 2023.
