Niagara Region appoints Deputy Chief Administrative Officer

September 28, 2023

Niagara Region is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Carnegie as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.

Dan Carnegie has spent more than thirty years in the public sector holding positions with Toronto Hydro, the Town of Oakville, the City of Oshawa and most recently, prior to his work with Niagara Region, with the City of St. Catharines as their Chief Administrative Officer from 2014 to 2017. For the past four months Carnegie has been serving as the temporary Commissioner of Public Works for Niagara Region.

During his time with the City of St. Catharines Dan was instrumental in the delivery of a number of significant projects and initiatives including his work with Niagara Region and local area municipalities to secure a Provincial commitment for all day GO Train service to Niagara. This early work with transit helped to establish the framework for the amalgamation of transit that has now translated into the creation of the Niagara Transit Commission. His work at the City of St. Catharines also saw him champion the creation of a Customer Service section within the City that aimed to provide a one-stop portal for citizens and businesses.

The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is a new position for Niagara Region. The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer will oversee the work of the Clerks, and Strategic Communications and Public Affairs divisions, as well as the government relations activities of the Region. The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer position is being held as a temporary position for now as we navigate any potential organizational changes that may come from the Provincial government’s review of Regional Governments.

Carnegie will begin his role as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer on Oct. 30, 2023.

“On behalf of Regional Council, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to Dan Carnegie as he assumes the role of Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the Niagara Region. Dan's extensive background and dedication to public service make him an outstanding addition to our senior leadership team. Dan brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to the well-being of our community. His leadership skills, combined with his passion for enhancing the quality of life for Niagara residents, will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of our region.” – Jim Bradley, Niagara Regional Chair

“I’m pleased to welcome Dan Carnegie to the role of Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and to see him continue his work at Niagara Region. I look forward to working with Dan on the establishment of this new position and I am excited to see Dan’s contributions to Niagara Region and our advancement of Council’s Strategic Priorities.” – Ron Tripp, Chief Administrative Officer

“The last four months working with CAO Ron Tripp and the Senior Management Team at Niagara Region has been a great experience and I am thrilled to continue working with this group of dedicated employees, delivering on Council's Strategic Priorities, while we await the outcome of the Provincial government’s review.” – Dan Carnegie, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer
