A practical guide to help investigators find information on individuals on social networking sites quickly and lawfully.

This workshop uses case studies to inform the delegates about internet investigations and research. Research methods and evidence gathering techniques are explained.  Research of social networking sites such as Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, and many others is thoroughly examined. The impact of relevant legislation, guidance, and best practice is identified and explained to ensure such activity is conducted in a lawful and effective manner.

 
 

PROGRAMME – 10.00am to 4.00pm

10.00am to 11.15am

  • Understand terminology – security – traceability.
  • Using different search engines, directories and indexing agents
  • Effectively and lawfully research social networking sites – not just Facebook!

11.30am to 12.30pm

  • Research websites, domain names, blogs & advertisers.
  • Explore the lawful implications of using false profiles or authority profiles, or even personal profiles for research.
  • Use latest facial recognition and image cache resources to search for ‘tagged’ and similar images, and therefore information on other websites.

1.30pm to 2.45pm

  • Learn how to use advanced search techniques on specific sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.
  • Identify other open source information available

3.00pm to 4.00pm

  • Comply with Human Rights, RIPA (RIPSA) and DPA in relation to sensitive activity and private information.
  • Be able to capture and present information as evidence in accordance with best practice
  • Discuss issues relevant to your work environment with the trainer.
