Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath singer and godfather of heavy metal, dead at 76

Ozzy Osbourne, the hell-raising frontman of Black Sabbath and reality TV star, died on  Tuesday, July 22. While details were not immediately available, it was later determined that Osbourne died of a heart attack.

Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005. The storm killed more than 1,800 people and displaced hundreds of thousands. Levee failures left much of New Orleans under water. The disaster exposed deep failures in emergency response and recovery. Twenty years later, the storm’s devastation continues to shape the region.

From the archives: Centennial Olympic Park bombing

On July 27, 1996, a pipe bomb exploded at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. The blast killed one person and injured more than 100. Eric Robert Rudolph was later convicted, though security guard Richard Jewell was first wrongly suspected.
