NOVEMBER 2017: THANK U!

Screaming with excitement to introduce . . . my journey.

When I wrote this poem entitled "Muster the Courage," I believed it to be a message directed toward the women in our program. But, over time, I uncovered it was first meant for me. This poem was the catalyst for my being challenged to write and share this exclusive, limited release book available in 2018 as a fundraiser for I Choose To Win.

"Muster the courage young lady, muster the courage now. Muster the courage to remove the mask, show your humanness and expose your truth. Relate to another woman who's struggling just like you. Muster the courage to be naked before others: transparency and vulnerability may be the answer to get her through. It's time. Be true. Share you." - MB

TIME TO CHOOSE. The founder of I Choose To Win opens up and shares with transparency and vulnerability pivotal moments in her life's journey that awakened her to God's voice and prompted her to exercise the power to choose victory while facing spiritual battles. Identify, relate and connect with her journey to WIN in this compilation of reflections, photos and poetry. This book is part of a fundraising campaign for our organization and its 2018 programming. Every donation over $50 received between Nov. 22, 2017 and December 23, 2017 secures a copy of the book and a tax-exemption letter.

A special thank you to Ashley Coleman, founder of writelaughdream.com and author of Love on Purpose and Dear Love, who led a small group of women embarking upon a written journey. We discussed getting started, staying focused and disciplined, editing, online resources, marketing and self-publishing. In our workshop, held at the lovely cowering space of D-Hive, we were encouraged to do a few activities that would help prepare us to focus.

Explore U Retreat! Welcome Serenity.

Sometimes you need to carve time away - intentionally. Remove the noise and clear the clutter in order to hear and honor your own voice and thoughts. For those who may not do a good job carving time away on their own, we planned this introspective trip for a small group women where each participant could get their dose of tranquility, serenity and fellowship. We broke bread together, laughed, swam, rested, read books, shared life challenges, carved time to write/journal and pray. It was a blessed time.

Explore Pottery in the Park! We loved it.

We were given the same foundation: clay, water and tools. Yet, we each purposed something different for our clay, which caused us to create and mold our new creation into something we assigned meaning and value. Led by Gail Jones, we were reminded that we, too, were created by God to be uniquely different for the purpose He assigned for us. This activity caused us to draw the parallel of our own selves being intentionally crafted, properly equipped and designed with purpose by the creator Himself.

A shout out to one of our Empowered Uth leaders and intern, 18-year-old Niyah who has taken initiative to address body image issues and the messages that rob young women of self-love and appreciation, confidence and esteem. She wants to help young women adopt a new narrative. Your donations support campaigns like this.

Our last Explore U workshop is a modeling & photo shoot session. We will be discussing being our authentic selves and allowing the camera to capture our truest essence so images help us to see ourselves as God sees us. It's a different twist to modeling. It's more about allowing our images to be reflective of our love of self and acceptance of our uniqueness. Join us December 16th.
