On this Friday June 27 we have another awesome Drop in Dinner. Kathy Harris – Social Savant -- has come up with a Dinner and Dice theme. Once again we will be offering a Game Night for your enjoyment. We will provide cards, dominos, liar’s dice sets and other games for your consideration. Feel free to bring your own games to share among friends old and new!

-
Or Lemon chicken with capers and white wine sauce
-
Steamed fresh green beans with toasted almonds
-
Smashed red potatoes with cream and sweet butter and Italian leaf parsley
-
Cesar salad
-
Berry melon salad
-
Dessert: cheesecake and ice cream
Cost: $ 15.00
Fantastic! And there is more! July is just around the corner…
On July 2nd Andrew Rist and crew will be a running their weekly Beer Can Race. This is yet another ready-made opportunity to come down, get on a boat and join the revelry afterwards. And did you know that we have two Santana 22s available for rent, tugging at their lines, ready to go?
|
|
On the Friday, July 4, Sequoia will have a float in the Redwood City Fourth of July parade. And I must say it is coming together beautifully! I cannot reveal too much so I won’t! But it will be a vision! Come down and cheer the crew on as it moves along in the parade!
Later that same day, your clubhouse will be open for a lunch of burgers and hot dogs served in a casual atmosphere. Come, bring friends, and wait for the fireworks at dusk. Please watch for notes regarding the closure of Seaport Blvd. It looks like approximately 1900 will be the cut-off for traffic. But not for boats!
|
|
On July 5th, Sequoia will be hosting the Westpoint Regatta, YRAs newest race. We will need many volunteers for decoration, clean-up and bartending opportunities, so consider this your chance to plug into a very new and dynamic social event.
And that is just in the first 5 days of July! I think I am going to need a vacation! See you around the club.

4th of July Fireworks at Port
(reprinted from Redwood City Enews)
This wonderful show is brought to the community by Redwood City with Presenting Sponsor Rocket Fuel, and generous support from Facebook, One Marina Homes, SARES REGIS, Informatica, San Mateo Credit Union, Recology and the Port of Redwood City.
-
Live music by Jokers & Thieves will begin at 7pm.
-
The fireworks extravaganza will start at approximately 9:30pm.
-
The fireworks can be seen from areas where there is a clear view of the skies above the Port, and can also be seen from high points all over the Peninsula.
-
For those coming to the Port, early arrival is highly recommended! This area is mostly private property with very limited public parking.
-
The Port is providing a public viewing area along the waterfront off of Seaport Court. Once all of the very limited public parking spaces are filled, Seaport Boulevard will be closed to all vehicular traffic at the intersection of Seaport/Blomquist. Once the intersection has been closed, no vehicle access to the Port area will be available. This traffic control restriction could occur as early as 7:30pm - so be sure to plan accordingly.
-
Alcohol is prohibited on-site at the fireworks show, and personal fireworks are illegal at all times in Redwood City.

Soda Can Recap and Survey
|
|

Ahoy Racers and Racers-To-be!
The first series of races of the Soda Can Racing came to an end and we had plenty of fun. We usually had 5 - 7 boats racing and everything from lost rudders and broken tillers to capsizes. Nothing was spared but no one was hurt and all boats were repaired.
But now it's time to look back to see what worked and what didn't. Racing wouldn't be possible without you Racers - and certainly wouldn't be as much fun so we're looking for your feedback and opinions. This does seem to be the month of surveys!
Please take the time (3-5 min) to tell us what you think. In particular we would like to encourage any of you who have not taken part in the racing yet to help us bring you out on the water. Tell us if anything kept you from joining us and what you would like to see change that would make it easier for you to race.
Please fill out the survey at this link (Click Here)
We would like to thank Junior Sailing, Fadi and Fred, for their huge support even-though we didn't make it easy for them. Their support is always invaluable. A special thank you goes to Phillip Meredith who jumped in whenever we needed him - running races, fixing boats and giving much needed advice and feedback.
You can find the best pictures of 6 races: (Click Here)
We hope to see you during the next Soda Can Series.

Single/Double-handed Series #3 Recap
|
|
| |
With 7 boats at the start line we've finished another successful race in the single/double-handed series. Wind predictions varied between 8-15 knots on one website and 15-22 knots on another. So our short-handed sailors again had to prepare for everything at once and as typical for the South Bay it went even beyond the predicted 22 knots. But also fell below 10 knots. Somehow Polecat switched off everyone else's wind once they reached the finish line.
The sole competitor in the single-handed division of this race was George Sutton with Knot to Worry. In the double-handed division, Kerry Sheehan with Windswept Lady came in first, followed by Tim Anto on Daredevil and Dan Doud with Polecat.
Some photos are available to view: (Click Here)
The next race is coming up quite soon on July 26, right before many boats will leave for the delta cruise out.
Over and out: The Race Committee went airborne in the big waves quite a number of times going towards the starting line on the whaler Sequoia but a good time was had by all!
Fair Winds!

California Coastal Cleanup Day - September 20th, 2014
Now entering its 30th year, Coastal Cleanup Day is the premiere marine-related volunteer event in California. Each year, thousands of volunteers turn out to California’s beaches, lakes, and waterways to help remove hundreds of thousands of pounds of accumulated debris. This year’s event, which will take place on Saturday, September 20th from 9 AM to Noon, promises to be our biggest yet – thanks primarily to you!
In 2014 and for the third year, we have a special Site Captain Guide especially for boating facilities - based on a pilot project the California Coastal Commission and the California Department of Boating and Waterways conducted in 2011 in partnership with Heal the Bay, the San Mateo County Water Pollution Prevention Program and two enthusiastic yacht clubs: Port Royal in Los Angeles County and yours truly, the Sequoia Yacht Club. In 2012, California’s recreational boating community increased its contributions to Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD). Working directly with the California Coastal Commission and the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways, 25 boating facilities participated in Coastal Cleanup Day 2013, further extending the impact the boating community has made to maintain clean waterways in California. The Leukemia Cup September 21st, 2014
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Leukemia Cup RegattaSM is a thrilling series of sailing events that combines the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to cure cancer. Since its inception, the Leukemia Cup Regatta has raised millions of dollars for lifesaving research and patient services, bringing help and hope to patients and their families. At events held at yacht clubs across North America, skippers register their boats and recruit friends and colleagues to help crew and to raise funds. Crew members seek donations from friends, family, co-workers and employers to sponsor their boat. National and local event sponsors also support the Leukemia Cup Regatta. Once again this year the San Francisco Yacht Club is hosting this event and there are many ways to participate by donating, sponsoring a boat, racing and/or cruising. For more information

|
The Annual Barth Race also is being held on Saturday, September 20th and this year the race will start at Coyote Point Yacht Club ending at the Sequoia Yacht Club that Saturday afternoon, followed by the always fun Western BBQ. It will be a busy weekend that will allow us to get out on the water and give back plus have fun.
