Notes From Vice Commodore Dan...

What a great Cruise out to Jack London Square!

Thank you to the John and Luanne Graves for putting it together. It was especially great to see some new members among the fleet. Check out the photos on the SYC FaceBook site.

Our club’s strong tradition of interesting cruises makes them something to look forward to and a very nice way to spend a holiday weekend.   Of course, bright sunshine and building breezes did no harm either…

And there is much happening within your club as well…

This coming weekend will be especially full with a cruise in (Bay View Boat Club), a spare-no-expense celebration of Sequoia’s 75th Anniversary and a Redwood Cup race with a racer’s dinner.  We will also have a breakfast Sunday for our cruiser guests as well as members and friends.

Get on the Bus for Casino Day!

There is still room to sign up for the Graton Casino Bus on February 26th!  It will be a full day of fun and perhaps profit!   There is a sign-up sheet at the club.  We need to reach a critical mass on this to make the bus pay – so sign on up!  We will need to know by Friday evening this week (Feb 21).

Then there's Mardi Gras and a Military Tour (Now there's a pairing for you...)

On March 7 we have a Drop In Dinner and General Meeting.  This evening will have a Mardi Gras theme and menu.

The Military Vehicle Tour on March 9 is full to capacity.  Thank you to those who signed up!

Sailing Exhibit Opens at the Museum

The Sailing Exhibit opens on Sunday March 16th at the San Mateo County History Museum.  Sequoia Yacht Club is an exhibit sponsor and is prominently featured within the gallery.  Please consider joining us for the ceremony.  Details are on the calendar page of the Sequoia website or here on Google.

And Belly Dancers!

We have another DID on March 28th with a carefully chosen menu and a troupe of belly dancers for your after dinner entertainment.

And of Course, Wednesday Lunches

Throughout February and March Winston and Carole Bumpus will continue to offer Wednesday lunches.  These meals are a very relaxing and enjoyable midweek diversion.  The food is great, the price is a bargain and they are very worthy of our support.  Come on down!

Redwood Cup race #4 is this Saturday

It's forecast to be another beautiful, sunny day, so bring your sunscreen.  It should be smooth sailing with a flood and the wind from the north.  The skippers' meeting is at noon and the race starts between day mark 20 and the dolphin at 1:30.  If any boat finishes before 4:30, all boats will have until 5:30 to finish. This change to the SI's holds for all races in the Redwood Cup series.

All race registrations and result reporting is on-line at jibeset.net (click here). If you participated in Redwood Cups #1, 2 or 3, you are already registered.

Twenty-one boats have participatied in the series.  Head Rush has three bullets and leads  Relentless by 4 points and Magic by 9  points. Can Head Rush continue their streak? Can Relentless or Magic step up their game and topple Head RushSweet Grapes and Pizote are also in the podium hunt, so opportunities exist. Only one more race after this one, so bring your fast sails and go for the glory.

Please note your finish time (preferred) or the names of the boats ahead and behind you so you can report them to the race committee at the club after the race.  The bar will be open and the fire will be roaring.  Or you can text them to 650-346-4864 or email them to trailmaven@me.com as soon after the finish as possible. We will be updating results interactively as reports come in, so final results should be available before you leave the bar!

Track your race and send the file to trailmaven@me.com.  The race committee will add all tracks to Tack Tracker so you can see the race play out on-screen.  Exciting tactical moves will be there for all to see.  All files in .gpx, .gpb, .vcc or .nmea formats will work.  Use your smart phone, Velocitec, Garmin...come on people.  The more who participate, the more fun. Any files handed off while we are still at the club will be added to the race replay shown on the big screen while the beer is still cold!

Extra for this race only

As a bonus, there will be an informal dinner following the race for all the procrastinators who didn't get into the 75th Anniversary dinner, those who don't want to shower and change for dinner and those who have other plans for the evening.  Join us for barbecue pork shoulder, salads, and munchies.   Please contribute $10 CASH (informal dinner!).  Potato salad and some other munchies will be provided, but bring any munchies and/or salads you want to show off.

Please RSVP to jennyanntho@hotmail.com by Friday.  And remember, $10 CASH only.  You cannot put this on your club tab.  No paypal, check, credit cards or S&H Green Stamps will be accepted.  If you know what the last is, congratulations, you are old.

Reminder About Adult Dinghy Discussion

As announced last week, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, February 26, at 6:30 PM  to discuss the adult use of the dinghy fleet.  This will be a problem solving session.  This is all about members having easy access to the boats so don't miss this one.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, contact  me at fredgillam@sbcglobal.net.
