New bin service starts next week - banner
Hi there,
Welcome to the latest 'Let's get sorted' eNews.

Thank you for embracing the changes to the kerbside bin collection service.

Together we have made a positive impact on the environment since the launch of the four bin system. In the first two months of service we have saved 1,332 tonnes of organic waste from landfill, which has resulted in a reduction of 2,158 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent in greenhouse gas emissions. That would provide enough electricty to power 366 houses for one year.

The public place glass bins diverted over 74,000 kilograms of glass from landfill which has been used in Victorian roads and constuction.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you.

We’ll also be sharing information and tips on starting your own compost, why compost is important and making the most out of your FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) bin.

Let’s work together to close the loop on food waste. We’re all at home more these days so what better time to start composting and get in to the garden. It is a great way to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Recycling spotlight: Aluminium
  • Did you know aluminium is 100% recyclable and can be recycled infinitely?

  • An aluminium can could take hundreds of years to start to break down in landfill.

  • The recycling process uses only approximately 5% of the energy required to produce new aluminium from the raw material bauxite.

  • Recycling just one aluminium can saves enough energy to power a TV for three hours.

  • Do you recycle aluminium foil in your yellow lid recycling bin? If not, you can. All you need to do is scrunch it in to a ball, aim for the size of a tennis ball. The bigger the ball of foil, the easier it is to recycle at the recycling facility.

  • After collection and processing, your recycled aluminium is turned into new aluminium products.
