Redlands artist secures People’s Choice gongRedlands artist Anita West has taken out the Redland Art Awards Meredith Foxton People’s Choice Award for the second time running, this year with her painting Banksia in the mist. Anita’s first win in the biennial contest was for her work Tangerine garden in 2014. The Redland Art Awards 2016 exhibition closed late last month after a large influx of visitors to the Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland. It was generously supported by Redland Yurara Art Society and Stark Creations. What's on in Redland City during December?Help celebrate the festive season with a host of events in the Redlands this month. Enjoy uplifting Christmas songs during a beautiful journey of Christmas around the world at the Redlands White Christmas Show, Redland City Choir’s annual charity concert, on Saturday 10 December at RPAC. Carols in the Bush is on at the Melaleuca Grove between Redlands Indigiscapes and Capalaba Presbyterian Church on Sunday 11 December. Come along to enjoy the carols, a free sausage sizzle and children’s program. Council’s biggest and best-loved community event, Christmas by Starlight, will light up Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton, on Sunday 18 December. Don’t miss Christine Anu and Thirsty Merc in concert during this free community event. Hopes not completely sunkDespite missing out on getting the ex-HMAS Tobruk as a new dive site for North Stradbroke Island, Redland City Council is keen to capitalise on the awareness its spirited campaign has generated in the local dive industry. It will also look for other opportunities to create new dive sites off Straddie. School holiday fun coming right up!Council has an exciting range of entertaining, low or no cost school holiday activities to cater for all interests. Kicking off in December, Redland Libraries have everything from Christmas craft and jewellery making to 3D Design and Paper Vibrobots. The fun continues throughout January and includes a special reptile show by TV’s Snake Boss. Check out the library’s full holiday program. Library bookings now open! Grants and sponsorship opening soonEvery year, Redland City Council provides more than $750,000 of grants and sponsorship to help local organisations, community groups and individuals make a difference in the Redlands. The next round of community grants and Regional Arts Development Fund will open on Monday 30 January 2017 and applications for the next round of sponsorship will be accepted from 20 February 2017.
