New! Collaborate and Ally

Blackboard Collaborate, a new digital classroom tool is now available in MyBeckett.  To help you get started, we have produced a staff overview of Collaborate in MS Sway.  This contains how-to guidance about setting up and running Collaborate sessions.  As a Blackboard product it integrates seamlessly with MyBeckett. It is similar to Microsoft Teams but with some differences in functionality to support a range of requirements. Further guidance will be provided shortly on TeachLearn, including updating this chart.  instructor specific feedback

Blackboard Ally, a web accessibility reporting and alternative formats conversion tool, that provides instructor-specific feedback, is coming soon to MyBeckett. See this MS Sway for a quick preview of what Ally will look like in your modules. We will send another email with Ally guidance, when released into MyBeckett – 7th September 2020!

Staff training sessions for Collaborate and Designing Accessible Content are available to book via Eventbrite.

Adobe Connect Update

Adobe Connect will be decomissioned when the current licence expires on 31/8/21 - all current host licence holders have been informed.

It will be upgraded on Sat 12 September, and may be unavailable between 01:00-07:00.  A new Windows application needs installing asap. A new Mac app is also available, but isn’t a necessity.

MyBeckett /Turnitin Student Inductions

We have worked with LLI's Academic Support team to produce an induction module called LBU Study Smart; aimed at new arrivals for the 2020/21 academic year. Your students (all staff can access it too) can work through this module at their own pace. It is now available via the 'Library' and 'Get Started' tab in MyBeckett.

The induction module has four sections, each explaining a different set of tools or skills that your students will develop during their studies. Unit 1 is focused on getting started at the University, and includes information about navigating MyBeckett as well as using the Library and accessing support:

Turnitin Flags

A new ‘flags’ tool has been added to Turnitin Feedback Studio in August 2020.  When viewing a submission, the flags tool appears above the similarity score in the panel on the righthand side of the document.  Click on the flags tool to view a summary of ‘flags to review’, which will include any inconsistencies picked up by Turnitin’s algorithms. For example, replaced characters or hidden text.

Please note, like the existing text matching tool, a flag is not necessarily an indicator of a problem but indicates that an area may benefit from closer inspection.

Digital Learning Information

  • Students are now attached to 20/21 modules - these are fed via Banner data feeds so please do not enrol manually (unless a non-credit module).
  • 20/21 Course Groups are available and students added (again dependent on their Banner information).
  • The staff 'Training' tab and 'SU' tab in MyBeckett have been updated - take a look!

Library Information

The Library’s Click and Collect service is now available for staff and students to borrow books. Reserve via the Library Catalogue and then make an appointment to collect.

We're planning to open the Libraries for students in September. They will need to book a time and space to do this. The Library service is open online with the Library website giving you access to thousands of electronic resources and online help and support.

Reminder of new e-books to expand and update reading lists.  Over 84,000 e-books have been added to augment online teaching resources this year. These can be searched via the library catalogue, with more information available on the TeachLearn website.

MS Teams Hub Site

Colleagues in IT Services have created a MS Teams Resource Hub page.  This has been developed for colleagues to access university-wide info about MS Teams training and support, including a link to new MS Teams feature updates.
