Winter 2017 — Mentoring

Dear newsletter subscriber,

February was National Mentoring Month, and given the interest in mentoring in our leadership workshops, we wanted to focus our winter newsletter on the subject. You’ll find thought provoking articles, including short pieces on who women would choose as their dream mentors and how to exert influence without authority. We've suggested some inspirational videos to watch, and we've also shared what our faculty are reading. We profile Simmons' Mentoring and Networking guru—Dr. Stacy Blake-Beard. Stacy's June course on Mentoring and Networking for Success feels much more like community building than the traditional view many of us have of swapping business cards. Register with the code F2017 and take 15% off. (We also offer non-profit and group discounts)

I recently read an article titled "Why the Queen Bee is an Endangered Species," which describes how much women are now helping each other to move forward in the work world.  The article states that "ninety-nine percent of the respondents said they 'strongly agreed' or 'agreed' that 'it is my duty to pay it forward and help mentor and support younger women in my company or industry.'" Ninety-nine percent! If you are already part of that trend, or if you are wondering how to move into that role—we hope this month's newsletter will prove interesting.

I’ll close this letter with a reminder that March is National Women’s History Month. With women so much in the news lately, this is a great time to make your voice heard. Enjoy the reading and let us know how we can help you on your leadership journey.

Sincerely,
Susan Halter
