Hello!

Welcome to Advokit Update #6  - all about the NDIS, information and advocacy, and related events and projects.

We hope you find this a useful resource. Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments by using the Provide Feedback button on the Advokit: www.advokit.org.au.

NDIS Evaluation - Have you been selected to take part?

The evaluation of the trial of the NDIS that is being conducted by the National Institute of Labour Studies at Flinders University is entering . Letters inviting people with disability to register for the NDIS Survey are being sent out to several thousands of people who are already in the NDIS and to others who may join the NDIS in the future asking them about their experiences.

The Evaluation team would like information about the NDIS Survey to be as widely available and taking part in the survey to be as accessible as possible, so that as many people with disability as possible can make their views known.

If you know someone who has received a registration pack, please encourage them to take part and, if needed, support them to register.  The voice of every single person with disability that your help could encourage to respond to the survey matters!

For more information about participating in the survey explore the NDIS Evaluation website: www.ndisevaluation.net.au.

Getting the Best from the NDIS, Making it Work for People with Intellectual Disability

Popular DANA tweets from #NSWCIDCof14: "We need vigorous, ongoing, constructive debate" to make the NDIS the best it can be. ... Messages of hope, resilience and success important for community, to change attitudes about #disability in new #NDIS world .... should be the INVESTMENT Scheme

Over 350 members of the intellectual disability sector from around Australia, including 45 people with intellectual disability, met in Newcastle over two days to discuss the implemention of the NDIS, in August 2014.

The need for access to advocacy featured prominently in discussions, and Conference participants saw many issues that need action if the scheme is to work for people with intellectual disability. These action items are set out in the Conference Report. You can also find copies of some of the presentation slides on the NSWCID website. www.nswcid.org.au.

NDIS Rights - CLC collaboration on your legal rights in the Scheme

Check out www.ndisrights.org.au. Three community legal centres joined forces to create this great new resource for NDIS participants to access and navigate the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme and know their legal rights.

These factsheets were created by Fitzroy Legal Service, Redfern Legal Centre & Hobart Community Legal Service - and are beautifully presented on an accessible website made by Wasabi Creative (who are also responsible for building the Advokit site!) We hope to gradually incorporate links to relevant pages into DANA's Advokit: www.advokit.org.au.
