Task Force Lowers Recommended Age to Start CRC Screening![]() Colorectal cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, and the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 150,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recently finalized a recommendation statement (as well as an evidence review and modeling report) that aims to encourage more screening and reduce people’s risk of dying by lowering the age at which asymptomatic adults should begin being screened. In a May 18 statement, task force Vice Chair Michael Barry, M.D., said, far too many Americans are not receiving “this lifesaving preventive service.” Read More... ABMS Continuing Certification Call for Comment![]() The ABMS opened a call for comment on the Draft Standards for Continuing Certification to obtain feedback from stakeholders who utilize or rely upon the board certification credential as an indicator of a diplomate’s professionalism and proficiency of specialty knowledge and skills. The Draft Standards were developed in response to a recommendation from the Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future Commission as well as other stakeholders. Read more... ![]() In an effort to provide more comprehensive and coordinated care for COVID-19 patients who continue to endure lingering effects of the disease, University of Utah Health has opened a post-COVID-19 care clinic. The clinic, which began accepting appointments on June 1, will offer medical services to self-described COVID-19 “Long Haulers” in the Mountain West who have one or more symptoms that have persisted for weeks or months after initial infection. The clinic will also have educational learning collaborative sessions to help providers learn more about post COVID-19 symptoms. This will provide support for care providers as well.
