8 WEEK PROGRAM I COMMENCING THURSDAY 12TH OF OCTOBER, 2017 I 6:30PM - 9:30PM
Many times when reading scripts we are faced with BIG PRINT that requires EMOTION in a scene. “He/She cries uncontrollably…” “She/he rages with anger…” Obviously EMOTION is a common part of our living experience and particularly during conflict, which is at the heart of all drama. The ‘Question’ then, is “How do we access that EMOTION and yet still serve the TRUTH of the scene?” So often we are tempted to ‘demonstrate’ or ‘push’ to find the EMOTION and in the process compromise the TRUTH. Join actor Damian Walshe-Howling (UNDERBELLY, BIKIE WARS: BROTHERS IN ARMS; EAST WEST 101; NED KELLY; THE TIME OF OUR LIVES; SATISFACTION; STINGERS; RESCUE: SPECIAL OPS; ALL SAINTS; MARSHALL LAW; HE DIED WITH A FALAFEL IN HIS HAND; BLUE HEELERS; JANET KING; OLD SCHOOL; MYSTERY ROAD; HALLIFAX F.P), and explore these questions through group discussion, script analysis and experimentation in front of the camera.
Each of us has our own process. We will explore ways to enhance that process and apply it to on screen performance. Quite often the shift between where we are in ourselves, at any particular moment, and the requirements of the scene is much smaller than we first imagine. Finding the courage to expose our vulnerability, our lack of knowing, our humanity ‘in the scene’ can be a challenge but it can often help us discover something far more alive in the work.
What is it to be still, to listen, to access TRUTH through instinct and presence? Throughout this intensive program with Damian, you will develop invaluable preparation tools for both Screen Tests and overall Scene Development.
