Pania's Pānui It's been two weeks since we farewelled our manuhiri that came to Northland for the World Indigenous Tourism Summit. We have had some incredible feedback from attendees, and are aware of several new projects that are underway as a result of new relationships and ideas formed at the Summit! The number of indigenous businesses that attended from around the globe was outstanding, and it was great that the NZ Māori Tourism team (staff and board) were able to catch up with many of the Māori tourism businesses that were in Northland for the three day Summit and the Research Symposium in Hopuhopu. You can check out photos of the Summit here. We are in the process of uploading all the presentations onto our website, we will let you all know when they are available to view. As we know, manaakitanga is at the forefront of everything we do, so on behalf of NZ Māori Tourism can I say a huge thank you to everyone that was involved in the Summit, whether it was a speaker, delegate, famil experience, volunteer, catering, entertainment, worker, transport provider, contractor, accommodation, host or organiser. While many of our international and local manuhiri may have arrived in Waitangi, Aotearoa as strangers, they have certainly all left as members of our whanau! YoungTEC’s Professional Development Programme (PDP) The ultimate aim of the PDP is to provide tourism trade training which supports young tourism professionals in their tourism career path, and facilitate a mentoring programme where they can learn from senior tourism experts. Even if you have done this programme before, we encourage you to sign up again. The proposed programme has some excellent guest speakers covering a diverse range of topics relevant in today’s marketplace and we have recruited mentors spanning across a variety of tourism businesses who are ready to support and enhance your experience. For sessions you can’t attend in person we will be using Facebook live technology to enable you to attend ‘remotely’, viewing on any smart device – either in real time or at a later date. The YoungTEC execs in each region not hosting that week will organise meet ups on these Tuesdays so participants can watch together and discuss the key outtakes. Registered participants will be given login access to a restricted area of the YoungTEC website where all recordings, audio files and presentation assets will be accessible. More details will be provided after you sign up. The cost is $150 + GST per person for all registered YoungTEC members. The eight-week course kicks off on Tuesday 5 June with sessions each concurrent Tuesday evening, concluding on Tuesday 24 July. Email the form to young@tourismexportcouncil.org.nz along with any other queries you have.
