Palestine & London Marathons

After months of training and hard work, Steve Baker,
Ben Warren, Louise Oijermark and Matt Crisp donned their electric blue Team Amos running tops and pounded the streets of London to raise money and awareness for Amos Trust.

With times ranging from under 3.5 hours to just over 4, the guys did really well and between them, raised over £6,000 for Amos Trust.

Steve pounded the streets of London for Amos Street Child, while Ben chose to support Umthombo in South Africa having volunteered there and Louise ran for Karunalaya in India. After running the Palestine Marathon two years ago, Matt ran in London for Amos Palestine.

Each of our runners put in a tremendous effort in training, in all weathers and terrains in the UK, France and Sweden, so it makes the news that Louise had to pull out at 11k due to injury so heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, earlier in the month I joined Team Amos as we headed to Bethlehem to take part in this year’s 'Right To Movement' Palestine Marathon – 17 of us in total, ranging in age from 17 to 70. For some of us it was our first long distance race but for team member Mike Sillitoe, it was his 50th marathon! Now that is something to aspire to.

We ran to raise money, we ran to tell stories, we ran to stand in solidarity with the amazing people we have met over the last 30 years, who long for the right to movement.

In between preparing to run, actually running and then recovering, we managed to visit partners in Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Hebron, take tea with the Bedouin in the desert, dance Dabke in Aida refugee camp, eat cake, falafel and hummus (in abundance), listen, learn and reflect. And there was even a marriage proposal (and an acceptance) at the finish line! Huge congratulations to Brian and Lia.

Thank you to each and every member of Team Amos for taking part in the Palestine and London Marathons – thanks to you, we have raised over £30,000 for our partners around the world and a lot more people know about Amos Trust.

And it's not too late to give. If you would like to support our partners around the world while not having to do all the hard work of running, you can do so by simply clicking here.

If you would like to join Team Amos in Bethlehem or London next year, please email katie@amostrust.org. And don’t forget that the general ballot for the London Marathon opens on Monday 2nd May so please do apply, and if you get your own place and would like to run for Amos, we will help you with fundraising, supply a running top and support you all the way.

Thank you.
