Grow Ministries eNews

WELCOME

Hello and welcome to a special edition of our eNews. You have received this email because the team at Grow Ministries wanted to share with you some new resources.

Recently in many LCA districts around the nation mid-year Christian Life Weeks were held involving many campers, leaders and directors.

Research shows that camping provides peak experiences for young people and can have a lasting impact on their faith formation. A week-long journey, often through a specific topic such as identity, provides an opportunity for young people to ‘go deeper’ than they can at a one-off or once a week event.

Faith is deepened through the mixture of meeting new people with a real faith, hanging out with inspiring leaders who have a vibrant faith and living in community together. It is a place where the presence of God can be felt in a real and tangible way through others. Young people often report a camping experience as a turning point for them in the formation of their faith.

Then there is the next step....what now? As we've travelled around the nation and certainly in our experiences mentoring the young people in our own congregations, often there is a what now question. So we have put together some fact sheets to help congregations and parents navigate this time.

We hope you are encouraged as you walk alongside the young people in our church families.

We have also included some other resources for you to investigate. If you would like to sign up for our monthly newsletter please do so. You are also free to forward this email to congregation members and parents.

Blessings,

The Grow Team

Jodi, Leah, Rachel and Vicki

NOW WHAT?

HOW CAN CONGREGATIONS SUPPORT THE CAMPING JOURNEY?

It is important that the wider faith community (congregation) acknowledges and participates in the journey of camp. This involvement can assist young people to ensure that the experience is not 'lost' but becomes an important and vital step in the formation of their faith.

WHAT ROLE CAN PARENTS PLAY?

It is important that parents take an active part in the faith formation of their child/ren. Giving them opportunitiy to experience all that camp has to offer and share in the journey by talking to them about the experience before and after camp.

ENCOURAGING FAITH CONVERSATIONS WITH YOUNG PEOPLE

Many parents feel ill-equipped to pass along their faith to the next generation. It is sometimes difficult to know where to start, especially when it comes to children in high school. If faith conversations aren't natural in your house, it can be uncomfortable and you may be unsure where to start......

HOW TO ENCOURAGE FAITH AT HOME

Our primary goal as followers of Jesus is that everyone should know who their heavenly Father is and that He wishes to have an intimate and purpose-filled relationship with each and every one of His precious children. There are four key things that can help us share our faith. Faith becomes real when others can see God working in the lives of people.
