A Message from Jennifer Ketchum - New School Theme for 2019-2020 School YearWelcome to a new school year at BES! This year, our theme will be “Mind, Body, Soul.” I truly believe in the education of the whole child, and this includes the mind, the body, and the soul. A quote that has stayed with me for a quite a while is “Your mind is your world. Your heart is your nature. Your soul is your universe. Your life is your creation.” A strong mind stretches us to continuously shape our thoughts and perceptions, allowing us to understand the world around us, strengthening our intellect and individual fortitude, and preparing us to be of better service to others. A healthy body aids in the academic learning process and helps to regulate our social-emotional needs. Research shows positive links between good nutrition and physical activity and the mind and the learning process. Our body is our temple – it houses and protects our inner being. The soul or spiritual aspect is connected to our individual journeys of self-discovery, self-knowledge, and the development of conscious and values. Throughout my years working in faith-based school environments, I have found a correlation between this kind of environment and high achievement, and I believe it is due to a response to a higher calling; the idea of belonging to something larger than oneself. It is essential to incorporate all these components to have a truly well-rounded educational experience, and I look forward to beginning my experience at BES with a focus on overall well-being! As we move through through the 2019-2020 school year, the "Mind, Body, Soul" theme will be reinforced and integrated into our school community in meaning ways. I look forward to going on that journey together with our students, teachers, and parents. Let's get started!
