St John's School Newsletter Term 2 Week 1 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents, It has been lovely to see the students arrive at school each day with happy smiling faces. We were very proud of the way the students conducted themselves last Friday firstly with the whole school Mass and then assembly later in the day. All students behaved beautifully. The pouring rain added an extra degree of difficulty but we shone through! Thank you to Tim Bickerton for conducting a Manual Handling workshop with all staff last week. He was assisted by his daughter Clare (Year 1) who was the perfect model. It was great for all staff to learn how to lift objects safely. School Crossing - It is very important that all adults model safe behaviours to our students. Parents are reminded that all parents and students must use the school crossing in Anderson Street if the flags are displayed when coming to and from the school. Thank you for your support with this important matter. Mercy Cross - In the last week of the holidays our beautiful Mercy Cross was installed. The cross has been made in bronze by sculptor Gael O’Leary and is in the garden at the front of our school. The cross reminds us of the work of the Mercy sisters in our school over many decades. The Cross will be officially blessed in November by the Bishop during our Centenary celebrations. The Cross was made possible by fundraising efforts over many years by the school and a very significant donation from an anonymous family. The school community is grateful to this family as without their kind support, this project would have been out of our reach. Foundation Rest Days - Foundation students are not required to come to school on Wednesdays until after the March Long Weekend. Foundation Student Assessment Interview - On the Wednesdays that Foundation students are not attending school, each student is required to book in for an hour long Assessment Interview on one of these Wednesdays. Students will need to be dropped off and collected again at the end of the Assessment Interview. Students can wear casual clothes and will need to bring a small snack and drink bottle with them. A booking sheet is on the door of the Foundation room where you can book your child into a time that is convenient. Parent/Teacher Interviews - Last night was the first of our three nights of Parent/Teacher interviews. Interviews will be held tonight and tomorrow night from 3:30-5.00pm. All parents are encouraged to attend. If you haven’t booked in a time for tonight or tomorrow night, please log on to the Parent Access module to book in a time. If you are unable to attend these days, please email your child’s homeroom teacher to organise a mutually suitable time. Swimming Trials - We were scheduled to run our swimming trials this Friday but with the forecast of storms and heavy rain on the day we have postponed trials. Mrs Watson is working with the staff at the swimming pool organise an alternate date, we will inform parents as soon as we have a new date. If your child received a note about the trials and you haven’t returned it, please send it in as soon as possible. Lunch Order - Once again, Fare Enough will be suppling lunch orders on Wednesdays starting tomorrow. Please refer to the menu in this newsletter. Please include correct money as change cannot be given. School Closure Day - Last year the staff were to attend a retreat at Flowerdale, however due to the pandemic this was postponed. All staff will be attending the retreat on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th February. The school will be closed to all students on these days. TheirCare will be providing long day care on these days. Please go to the TheirCare website to book in. Family Sports Night - Our traditional Family Sports Night for the whole school will be held on Friday 26th March from 5:30pm - 7.30pm. A sausage sizzle will be available on the night. All students will need to bring their own drink bottle. This is an alcohol and smoke free event. Working With Children Card - If you hold a current Working with Children Card we would like to have a copy on our file. Please take a photo and email it to principal@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au or next time you are at school we can copy it for you. Beyond the Gate - We are happy to share news of our students achievements beyond the school in our newsletter. Please feel free to email the school via principal@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au with a short summary of their achievement and a photo. Have a great week everyone, Libby Hamilton Calendar of Events

That all might come to greater unity through a shared joyful proclamation of Christ’s Gospel. Let us pray for peoples of all nations and their leaders, that they might embrace the call to peace written by God on every human heart. Let us pray for all in leadership in our Catholic education system. That they might embrace the Church’s call to a new evangelization and put out into the deep with Christ in their decisions affecting our Catholic schools. Let us pray for all who suffer in our schools, homes, communities and world. That they might know Christ’s abundant love more fully through our renewed response to their needs. Let us pray for one another. That we might recognize and celebrate the unique contributions each of us make to the distinctive character of St John’s. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. Let us pray for ourselves, that we might be strengthened with the sure hope and knowledge that Christ and his Spirit are at work with us in our efforts to spread the Gospel through Catholic education.
