Name Change

We've made a small name change in our department that better defines the piece of the kingdom we are to oversee.  Moving forward, we will be known as Local Compassion Outreach.  Our focus is on reaching out and ministering to under-resourced individuals and families in our community – thus the ‘compassion’ addition to the name.   The larger, church-wide vision of reaching out to the lost (Local Outreach in its broadest form) is led by senior leadership.  We lead initiatives that will provide opportunities to live out the gospel charge of loving and taking care of the poor by addressing the physical and spiritual needs that exist in poverty.

All our existing ministries will continue doing their great work.  Creating a more clear ministry name will shape the types of things we get involved with from here forward.

Jesus House - Community Outreach Events!

We've been meeting and praying with the Jesus House church over the past few months - and we're excited to say God has given us some 'work' to do to point more people on the West Side to Him!

  • Monday, July 15th/6:00pm:  Prayer & Handing out Flyers in the neighborhood
    Jesus House will be hosting the rap group 2 Face on Friday, August 16th.  These former gang members gave their lives to Christ and now use their gifts for God.  On July 15th, we will meet at Jesus House for prayer at 6:00pm then head out in groups to hand out flyers inviting people in the neighborhood to come to the event in August.

    This will be a great time to meet people and be a part of pointing them to an event that could be the time they give their life to Christ. We need people who want to see our community healed by the message of Christ to come out to Jesus House on the 15th and spread the invitation.  You never know how the Spirit may use you as you are out offering these invitations.....and you'll REALLY never know if you don't show up!

  • Saturday, September 14th:  Block Party & Work Day at Jesus House
    We are in the early stages of planning, but wanted to get this on your radar!  Jesus House has a garage they converted into a youth hang-out space.  The roof leaked and the walls and carpet got damaged.  We're going to give that space a makeover!  This will allow the Jesus House to offer great alternatives to the youth in the neighborhood and share Christ's love with them. On the 14th, we'll also be hosting a cookout for the neighborhood!  More details to come, but if you're interested, email Lisa Miller-Rich to get on the list of volunteers!

Backpack Give Away - Volunteer Opportunities

Did you know 1 in 3 kids in our community qualifies for free or reduced lunches? Those same kids can have a difficult time getting school supplies.

Every year in August, the Back 2 School Alliance provides backpacks full of school supplies to over 1600 under-resourced children in our community.

There are many ways you can be involved.  Visit www.back2schoolalliance.com for information about:

  • Donating - what supplies to buy and where to drop off
  • Volunteering:  A specific ask for Eastview is for people to be at the local Walmarts to collect school supplies on Saturday, July 20th. Please visit these links to see the available shifts:
    * East side Walmart
    * West side Walmart

100 Caring Adults at Kingsley Junior High - August 20th

As Pastor of Local Compassion Outreach, Lisa Miller-Rich looks for ways to serve under-resourced families in our community. Through a strong leading of the Holy Spirit, Lisa was led to become a Co-Chair on the newly formed Kingsley Junior High Promise Council (KPC).

Promise Councils exist to help more students obtain 5 key promises that help every student be more successful:

  1. CARING ADULTS who are actively involved as parents, teachers, mentors, coaches, and neighbors
  2. SAFE PLACES that offer constructive use of time
  3. A HEALTHY START and healthy development
  4. AN EFFECTIVE EDUCATION that builds marketable skills
  5. OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP OTHERS by making a difference through service

Over the course of the school year, opportunities to volunteer and/or supply physical needs for students will be presented to the Eastview body.

The first opportunity is called 100 Caring Adults on the first day of school, August 20th.  On that day, many kids are both excited and nervous and it provides us an awesome opportunity to show the support of our community.  With caring adults circling the gymnasium and lining the halls as students show up to the first day of school, the message is clear that something is different this year.  If you'd like to be a part of this great event, the time committment is only 7:00AM-8:30AM.  We need people from all walks of life!

Please click here to be a part of this "ribbon cutting" ceremony that begins a new era of support for the students of KJHS!   More details will follow for those who sign up.

Mentoring - Big Brothers Big Sisters

As part of Eastview's involvement at Kingsley, we'll be asking for mentors for students in the upcoming months.  Mentors will:

  • Meet with their student at least once a week
  • Meetings may only take place during school hours
  • Guidance/training will be provided
  • All mentors will be screened through Big Brothers Big Sisters

You can get started as a "Big" at any time!  Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for adults who want to make a difference in the lives of kids who need caring role models.

Worship leader, recording artist, songwriter, and producer Israel Houghton became involved full-time in worship ministry in 1989. From the start he looked to overcome cultural and denominational barriers. With this idea as the centerpiece, Israel formed his New Breed Ministries in 1995 with his wife, Meleasa, and a group of world-class musicians and singers. Touring extensively brought the Ministries' powerful and diverse sound to churches around the U.S., while Israel's two 1997 releases -- Whisper It Loud and Way of the World -- kicked off his recording career. New Season from 2001 became the first Israel & New Breed release and their first release on Sony. Sony also issued Real in 2002 and Live from Another Level (on both CD and DVD) in 2004. Alive in South Africa from 2005 featured a performance in Cape Town in front of 8,000 attendees.
